{question of the week}

I am bad about planning surprises for people because I get too excited to wait to share it. I even have a hard time not giving a person a present I have gotten for them the second I buy it. I wanted to surprise Ben on his birthday with tickets to see the Avett Brothers, but I ended up telling him days (OK .... a week or two.....) ahead of time just because I couldn't wait. I knew he would be so happy to see them in concert, and I was right.

This week's question is-

If you could be surprised by tickets to any concert, what concert would it be? Also, what is the best concert you've attended to date?

First, I am so grateful for the concert tickets and loved the "surprise." Other than the Avett brothers the concert I most want to see now would probably be Sir Paul McCartney. Meaghan speaks so glowingly of her experience and I figure getting to see Beatle live would have to be awesome.

In terms of best concert, I would have to say that The Counting Crows concert I went to last year was one of my favorites. The Rhyman auditorium was amazing, great seats, you could feel the history of the place and it all seemed very intimate. The Crows were great as well, once I got over the shock of the lead singers hair still being so ridiculous.

I am pretty excited to see Avett Brothers too, but I'll share a different answer. I have never seen Lady Antebellum in concert and would really love to.

One of the most memorable concerts I've been to was a concert with Dixie Chicks and James Taylor in 2004. I enjoyed the music so much and also enjoyed the smaller venue of the Fox Theatre. We went to celebrate our five year anniversary as well as to have one last date before Luke's arrival a few weeks later. The whole night is just a great memory of mine.

the first part of this question is difficult due to the fact that i don't hold most entertainers in high regard. with that being said, i would have to choose Alison Krauss. i have always been a sucker for the female singing voice and in my opinion hers has always been and probably will always be the the purest i have ever heard. she surely makes the angles both smile and cry.
i once again claim the age card in the determination of the best concerts ever attended. there are just too many options spanning 60 years. so i will break those 60 years into thirds.

First 20 years - young and wild:
GUESS WHO with Burton Cummings distinct voice and passionate piano play.
CHICAGO at SIU with horns galore
BLOOD SWEAT AND TEARS horns again

2ND 20 years - growing family time:
Harry Chapin due to the awareness demanded by his music and the simple pleasures available in life.
Sweet Baby James Taylor just because his voice and most messages are so awsome (i hate that word but it is applies here)
Present 20 years - growing with the ones i love
Zac Brown Bands recent concert that patti and i attended with Bridg, Will, Ben and Leslie at Peoria. i was gratefull for the great food, company and music. most of all i was thankfull for a trip back in time. at the end of thier final set the band cranked into some of the best southern cross rock that i have ever heard.
i closed my eyes and was transported back to the very early 70s as a 19 year old boy cruising eldo in my newly tricked out 63 ford galaxie 500 with the 8 track belching out loud volumes of "eat a peach" by the allmon brothers. life is/was great.
Papa
I am so enjoying Papa's contributions to these questions! And I remember that wild-eyed 19 year old boy, he really was (excuse the term) awesome and that was one cool car, but I digress.
I would love to see Bruce Springsteen again, saw him in 1980 when I was a Senior in HS on his Darkness on the Edge of Town tour at Assembly Hall and then in 1984 in StL during the Born in the USA tour, both amazing shows. We debated buying tickets for his show in London this summer and Jeff was so close to pulling the trigger when we realized that we weren't even going to be there! He was playing the Saturday after we left on Wednesday. Boy, how dumb would we have felt after buying those tickets? I'd still love to see him again. The Boss is still rocking it at 65!

I have been to alot-lot of concerts and there have been alot that were great in different ways. I saw Brad Paisley and Sara evans at Braden in bloomington and her voice and the accoustics in there were amazing! Zack brown was awesome both times I saw them, Sugarland is fun and watching them at the state fair with lightning in the distance still sticks in my head. Hootie and the blowfish both times and then Darius Rucker at the state fair I really love his music and voice.HUGE FAN. I could go on but I won't. so i find it impossible to pick just one!

That said my concert going experiences have been eclectic but it probably skews country So if I could be surprised with any concert I would probably say it would be something outside of that (although Darius Rucker is always a good choice for me) I would LOVE to see Jack Johnson or even Kelly Clarkson or P!nk would be amazing but I am happy seeing anything live!
