You are going to spend a week alone in an empty hotel room. Assuming that basic meals will be provided, what five things do you take with you? To keep things interesting, there is no internet access in your hotel room.
1. a blank notebook and colored pencils 2. a one thousand piece puzzle 3. a book of logic and Sudoku problems 4. my laptop- even with no Internet access, I would like to journal on it and better organize my pictures 5. a DVD of a season of an old favorite TV show that I haven't seen in many years
Ron, who always keeps things interesting, and four good books. Sandi

since you did say alone I am going to leave Will off my list although he was my first thought. This seems like torture to me because I do have alone time now but I know for some of you moms and dads out there I'm sure the idea of this doesn't sound too bad.
so here is my list 1. sewing machine 2. Fabric and supplies - I was going to include the two above as one but thought that might be cheating so I compromised (with myself lol) and just combined the supplies. I have a project I need to work on but between bathroom reno and work I'm not sure when I am going to work on it. 3.Game system and game- not sure which XBox, wii or PS3 or which game (mario galaxy?) but I know in the past I could waste hours on games (sims is a real time suck with no real reward) 4. A book- not sure which one but a long one (Michener maybe) 5.manicure set - never seem to find the time for this
if you notice most of my list contains activities that are time sucks or things that I need to get done but other things always override, Not necessarily meant to savor a week by myself!

First of all, I would go completetly nuts alone. Once I got over writing on the walls and staring at the TV I would want to catch up on somethings that I always want to do but don't find time for. Here's my list of to do: 1. Read two books. One fiction and one history book. 2. Video editing- I really want to learn how to make and edit videos effectively. 3. Play the guitar- I would get a video or app that could help me learn the guitar. (then I would make my own rock videos with the knowledge I got in step 2)

It's telling that I can not imagine myself separated from Ron. Retirement that has us spending most of our time together is likely to blame. He is painting right now, and I am working on taxes, which is hardly the definition of "togetherness". Sandi
First off, I agree with Ben, I would go bonkers. Once I settled down, I would plan my entire semester, hell, my entire year and get caught up on all my grading and case management...jeez, how pathetic does that sound? Since this year I've taught almost all new novels, short stories and plays, I have lots of tweaking to do. I think I'd spend the remainder of the time working on digital scrapbooks. I have lots of random photos that need to be scanned that I should put together in some sort of order for posterity.
Even I would probably go bonkers with a whole week to myself in a hotel room - although work has forced me to spend time in a strange city with not a lot to do. My list:
1.) My Nook with newly downloaded books. Like Ben, I would have a mix of fiction and non-fiction. 2.) My excercise band. Missing Spin class would really drive me crazy, but I can get a good work-out with the band. 3.) My iPod with lots of new music. 4.) The DVD of the first season of "Homeland". We have it but I haven't taken the time to watch it. 5.) A instructional yoga video. I'd like to take a yoga class - maybe in a week I could learn something.
