{Jefferson City, Missouri}

The fourth grade at Gracie's school traveled to Jefferson City today to learn more about Missouri. Gracie had a great time and is just full of really interesting things to tell us.

Some shots of her take on the day:

On a doting- mama side note: I am feeling extra proud of Grace after the trip today. When I picked her up at school this evening, she was nothing but excited about the trip. She had a huge smile on her face and said many times how much fun she had and what a great day it was. I heard detail after detail about the landmarks they saw and the neat stuff she learned.

I know from having been the teacher on a fourth grade Jefferson City field trip before that a large part of the fun of the day for the kids is the social aspect. Gracie had excitedly told me yesterday that her favorite friend from class was going to be her assigned buddy for the day. They were going to get to sit with one another on the bus and be in a group together with a boy pair of students and a chaperone. I was really happy for her that she was going to get to enjoy the day with a good friend.

Tonight when I asked her about hanging out with Hannah all day, she very matter-of-factly told me that Hannah did not end up coming on the field trip today. We don't know if she was sick or missed the bus or what, but basically Gracie was kind of cheated out of a buddy for the day. I asked her who was in her group, and she said, without complaint and very casually, that she spent the day with two boys and the mother of one of the boys.

I felt so proud of her at that moment. She could have felt sorry for herself or grumbled about the circumstances, but she did not,  even for one second. She had a great time and didn't let her absent partner put a damper on her day at all. Love that girl.

I'm also pretty proud of these pictures too. She asked me take them off of her camera for her while she ate her dinner and took a shower and I was so impressed with what I saw. I love to see her view of the world.

And now I can breathe a bit easier that she is back home. She was on my mind all day. Not that anything was going to happen, but field trips always make me a little uneasy and this was the biggest field trip we've done yet. Five hours on a charter bus is a worrisome undertaking for a little girl who gets carsick (luckily, no issues today!). When Ben's plane lands late, late tonight after being away all week,  I will really be able to relax. Life is so much better when we're all under one roof.

What great pictures she took!! I'd be on pins and needles too all day with a field trip like that Leslie. I have to say, I so admire your parenting skills :) xo

Leslie, You have every right to be proud of Gracie. As a teacher, I never worried about the distance we went on field trips. I knew I would keep track of everyone and that we were all safe. It was something different letting go of Elizabeth and not worrying until she was home. For six years, I used most of my personal leave days chaperoning field trips. One of the hardest ones was letting her go 3 days to Tennessee for an orchestra contest when she was 14. I still like it best when we are all under one roof. Joanie
Grace has quite an eye and is becoming a very good photographer! Glad to hear she had such a good time on her field trip, it's hard to let them go but it's good for both of you :-)
