{getting settled}

It seems a bit delayed to say it six months after moving here, but it appears as if September just might be the month we start to feel as if we are settled.

The past half- year of my life has been one big transition. After the initial excitement of unpacking and exploring a new town- which kind of felt like an extended vacation in the beginning- there was a whole lot of work to be done. A new house to make home, new neighbors to get to know, new doctors to find and visit, a new school district to get used to, new extracurricular activities to sign the kids up for, etc. etc......and all of this to attempt to recreate what was just left behind in Indiana.

I've made strong headway in getting our family's basic needs met. There are things I'm still working on (we still don't have a dentist....... we really do need some other families to hang out with......we are not yet active in a church....), but we are definitely getting there. I am proud of the work I've done to get our family settled and feel like I can now move on to something a bit less pressing- getting myself settled here.

For the first time since the summer after Gracie was born, I find myself with only one child to spend my day with. With Luke starting school and without extra children from babysitting, it's just Andrew Henry and me for most of the day. We take Gracie and Luke to school at 7:15 and then we have the morning free. It is pretty quiet around here with just the two of us- and then he goes down for a nap and it gets really quiet.

All of this quiet has me feeling a little restless. While talking with Ben last week, I came to the realization that the next four years until Drew begins school have the potential to leave me feeling unfulfilled if I don't do something with them. I love staying at home with the kids and really do want to continue to do so, but I am also missing the outside interests and adult interactions of my previous pre-Mommy life.

For the past month I have been looking into some things that would be good for me and I am in the middle of making some of the ideas a reality. It's both scary and exciting at the same time.
