St. Louis Science Center date

Ben and I try to spend one-on-one time with the kids as often as we can. Sometimes it is an outing of the child's choice, sometimes it is a school or sporting event, and sometimes it is just a project around the house or one child staying up later than the rest. As much fun as a big family is, it can sometimes make it hard for a quieter voice to be heard amongst all the other voices. So as much fun as it is for the child to get a parent all to himself for a couple of hours, I am pretty sure that Ben and I enjoy it even more than they do. It is great to hear the stories that don't always come out when a voice is competing against the voices of three other siblings.

About two weeks ago, Gracie and I went out for the afternoon to see a movie, stop at Bread Company for a hot drink, and then do a bit of shopping for new jeans for her. I always love my time with my Gracie girl. If there is a sweeter, more easy-going gal around, I have yet to meet her.  I love to hear her stories about school, friends, and life as a ten year old.

It was Luke's turn next, but his date kept getting pushed back- the stomach bug we had, then the bad weather, and then a last-minute invitation for Luke from one of his friends. On Sunday, though, we finally had our time. He requested a trip to the St. Louis Science Center. He also, in a move that totally melted my heart, requested that Gracie could come along. He said it would be even more fun to get to be at the Science Center with her there. Love that those two are so close!

We hit the museum for a couple of hours and Luke got to lead the way. We saw all of the museum and the favorites seemed to be the hamster-wheel for people, the Arch blocks, the tunnel over the highway, and the laser harp. We also really enjoyed the show we saw on gravity where various objects were dropped right in front of us from sixty feet above.

After the museum, we went to dinner together. Luke requested Qdoba and appreciated that I let him get an entree instead of a kid's meal, though he ended bringing some of it home to Ben. :) We talked about all of the exhibits they had enjoyed and then discussed their project for the upcoming school science fair.

The highlight of the entire day, though, happened as we were leaving dinner. Luke reached out and grabbed my hand so we could hold hands as we walked to the car. At nine years old, this doesn't happen very often, so it made me one happy lady.

I am so crazy about these two kids of mine.
