{New Year's Eve 2013]
Well, crap.
For the third time in five days, I find myself keeping watch over a sick child. After being sick last Friday night to Saturday afternoon, Drew felt better for a couple of days, but then got really sick again on Monday afternoon. By yesterday afternoon, I thought the worst was over and that, once again, we could put the bug behind us. Nope. Katie got the same thing this morning.
It's not been fun.
It was a very quiet ringing in of the New Year last night for the Hedenberg clan. Our friends in Decatur were getting together for a family slumber party, but we feared spreading whatever bug Drew was fighting with others, so we chose to skip out. (In hindsight, it was a really good decision.) Yesterday afternoon we did venture out for lunch and a trip to the bookstore, but other than that, we've been hanging out at home since we got back to St. Louis on Saturday afternoon.
Yesterday looked like naps and basketball on TV and video games in the basement and some game time and brownies and a movie on the couch to end the day. We told Gracie and Luke (who were NOT happy with the change in plans from a party in Decatur to a quiet night at home….) that they could stay up late if they wanted. When our movie ended at 11:45, Ben and I went to bed, but they went upstairs to wait out the new year together (they said they waited together with flashlights in Gracie's bed….. I love how close they are) and were excited to hear all of the fireworks in the area at twelve.

2013, you were sure a good year for us, even if you didn't end in the most exciting of ways. Thanks for the memories.
Bring on 2014! (… and healthier children!)
