{settling back in and looking ahead}

I am not sure if I am nesting or just happy to be back in my own home, but I have spent the day happily engaged in all things domestic. Doing quick tidies of all of the closets, putting away all of the Christmas decorations, finding homes for all of our new Christmas presents, setting up a Lego area for Luke's newest obsession.......it just makes me content today to putter around the house. Ben also has a few house projects up his sleeve, though his are on a much grander scale than mine. He has the day off tomorrow and is looking forward to spending the day working on the built-ins he is creating in the dining room. I can't wait!

Gracie was a happy, happy girl this afternoon playing with her new Easy Bake Oven. She spent about two hours engrossed in making creations for her brothers to try. Luke spent the entire afternoon- from one until 4:45- playing with Legos. A major meltdown was narrowly avoided with some quick mama-distractions after Drew got a hold of one of his Lego masterpieces. Drew has spent the afternoon playing with his new cars and "helping" me with my projects. He slept in this morning to a shockingly late 8:20, so we skipped his afternoon nap in an attempt to get everyone back to a normal bedtime routine. Luckily, the kids still have three more days of Winter Break before returning to school, so we have plenty of time to settle back into our normal schedule.

As I have nested today, my mind has wandered quite a bit. I am not one for New Year's Resolutions, but I have found myself thinking a lot over the past couple of days about some changes/improvements I'd like to make in my life in 2011. I really like the idea of constantly striving to be a better version of myself.

I sat down this afternoon to journal about this and realized that everything I would like to strive for this year is really just a continuation of the goals I have been working on since we moved here. I'd still like to meet some more people in Knoxville.  I'd still like to pursue more interests outside of the home. I'd still like to be more purposeful in my parenting and the activities I do with the kids. I'd still like to feel and look healthier (though this one might not be as do-able for the next five months!) There are so many areas of my life that I wouldn't change a thing about, but other areas that could definitely use a little tweeking. How about you- do you believe in New Year's resolutions?

Ben is off with a buddy watching the Illini game and I have three children to bathe and get ready for bed before I have decided I want to spend the evening continuing the nesting I've been enjoying all day. The dining room closets that Ben will be turning into built-ins currently hold all of our upstairs art supplies, the Play-doh toys, and all of the educational books and tools I use with the kids. Rather than simpling moving it out of the way, I think I'll take advantage of my current organization and cleaning bug and sort through everything.

Happy Sunday evening, all- hope you had a relaxing day as well!
