{a wee little bit homesick already}

I just finished feeding the kids dinner and we've headed downstairs for a little playtime. I love this time of the evening.  So relaxed and easy-  at least until we have to head back upstairs around seven to do chores, bathe, get school materials ready for the next day, read, and get everyone tucked in for the night..... that part of the night can get a little chaotic.

This part, though, when all three kids are happy and playing and I get my first chance to chill out for a minute since Drew's naptime six hours earlier is pretty OK. If Ben is home, we catch up. If he is not home, I grab a magazine, book, or my laptop and just relax. I can count on about 45 minutes of "me" time- broken up with the occasional dirty diaper or squabble over a toy- and it does wonders for the rest of my evening.

I've been relaxing this evening by looking back over all of the pictures from our trip to Illinois- it's so hard to believe that a week ago we were still there. It feels like longer already. I saw most of the pictures while blogging last Sunday, but tonight I came across a few that I must have missed. These pictures just make me smile and realize that I just might be a little homesick already.

The thing about having such a wonderful time when we visit is that it makes me greedy for more. Logically I should have had my fill for a while, but when you get to spend a week and a half with wonderful people, you find yourself wishing it could always be that way.

Luke said to me as we were driving away from Decatur last Friday, "I wish we could live here so we could always have so much fun." Ben tried to explain to him that it wouldn't always be that much fun, that it feels extra special when we are there because it is like a vacation and that it wouldn't be that full of get-togethers and cool things to do if we lived there, but Luke just didn't agree. I kind of knew what the poor kid was feeling. We recognize a good thing when we see it, I guess, and our family and friends back home are wonderful. Why wouldn't we want to be with them all of the time?

So, a few more pictures to share from a wonderful trip home:

cuteness.

old friends

I loved getting to spend so much time with my brother. He's such a good guy.

our littlest bowler

I love that Ben caught this picture of Allie and me. This picture couldn't capture "us" much better, unless maybe we were both sipping on a cup of coffee. I can't tell you how many hours we've logged just chatting on her couch or mine while the kids play nearby.

COMPLETELY worn out on the drive home-
these are the munchkins that stayed up past midnight the night before

Love.

Drew has since been shouting out, "1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Happy New Year!" at random moments.
