Luke is SO needing a nap this afternoon, but strongly protesting. He has been wound for the past two hours and just wearing me out! Also, the kids have a sitter this evening as we head to Curriculum Night at Gracie's school, and I would hate for him to be a handful for her.

I put him on my bed about an hour ago and told him he could get up after he had been quiet and still for twenty minutes. I turned on the fan and a classical music CD, gave him his favorite blanket, and even promised him that I would read his four Superhero books with him if he took a good rest. In my best no-nonsense voice, I told him that I knew he would take a good rest and that I would come back in twenty minutes to get him. I walked out of the room and to the loft where I could keep an ear on him while paying some bills online.

Despite all of my preparation, encouragement, and bribery, he kept flopping around, hollering questions to me, singing made up songs at the top of his lungs, and throwing pillows off of the bed. When I was just about to lose patience with him, he called out, "Mom, I just can't take this anymore! This is not going to work today!"

As usual, the goofy boy made me laugh out loud- so much for being stern and holding my ground! Ben and I say all the time that there is a definite reason that God made three year olds so cute and funny!

I just read this entry, and then I scrolled up. I saw the picture of Luke when he was maybe 2 and 1/2 or three, and I understood why you couldn't argue with that face. I am going to be a so bad father. I won't be able to ever say no to that face when it's my kid.
