ultrasound update
We met with the high risk OB for a very thorough ultrasound. After lots of measuring and studying, the good news is that she is not overly concerned about the baby's kidneys. She would like for him to have an ultrasound of his kidneys when he is two weeks old, but she does not feel the need to see me again before his birth. Phew.
After hearing that, the rest of the ultrasound was fun. I can't say enough nice things about both the technician and the obstetrician. Luke was extra fidgety and being a bit difficult- such a gift that he has for acting up at just the worst times!- but the technician was so very patient. She laughed and said he reminded her of her son, then tried to include him in the process. She let him feel the ultrasound equipment, sit in a tall chair next to her, and asked him many questions. Her attitude made our appointment nice when it could have been so miserable. She so went above and beyond that I wrote a letter to her office thanking her.
We left with many great pictures of our baby boy. There was one shot we got of his face that brought tears to my eyes; he looks so beautiful to me. Seeing an ultrasound of a baby at the end of a pregnancy looks much different than seeing an ultrasound at twenty weeks! He had one foot up by his face, so we couldn't see all of it, but what we could see reminded me so much of Luke. The technician confirmed the weight that the ultraound the week before had measured- five pounds and eight ounces.
Thank you so much to everyone who has called and sent emails over the past few days. It is so very nice to know that so many people already care about this little guy.
