fear of commitment

You wouldn't think that Ben and I have any sort of fear of commitment- we have been together since I was sixteen, for goodness sakes! :) We had Gracie and Luke named as soon as we found out their gender. We made an offer on our house after spending just twenty minutes in it. Nope, no usual problems committing to a decision for us. When it comes to a name for this new baby, though, we just can't seem to agree and stick to a name. We're stumped.

Which is where your assistance might be helpful......

It seems as if right now he will be named either Henry or Drew (his full name would be Andrew).

We like Henry Zachary (Zachary is Ben's middle name) and Henry Ross (Patti's maiden name). We also like Andrew Henry and Andrew Zachary. There are two names I love that Ben just doesn't like- Noah and Tyler (Ty). There are two other names that we both really like, but don't love- Cal and Charlie. And there are two names Ben likes that I don't- Xavier and Max.

So that's where we are right now. And not that we're strapped for time- we're hoping not to see this little guy for another month- but I just feel ready to know his name. We're setting up a nursery, I'm pulling out and washing all of Luke's baby clothes, and I've pre-registered at the hospital. The length of time we have before we meet him just gets shorter and shorter all the time and I feel so very ready. A name would be really great at this point.

So...if you have any input/suggestions/advice/etc. it would be much appreciated. Do you think one of the names fit better than the other? Does one sound better with Gracie and Luke? Have you heard any other perfect little boy names that you'd like to offer as suggestions?

Xavier or Max?? Mom, I think you should be in charge of my name. Dad is trying to ruin my life. Of the names you have suggested, I like Tyler and Zachary (as a first name). I can be your little Ty guy. I trust you can pick me a great name, just remember, my entire life will be determined by my name :)

P.S. Can we have a chai today?

I'm really liking Andrew or Tyler...somehow Henry Hedenberg isn't flowing for me. But Andrew (Drew) and Tyler (Ty) both sound great with not only the last name, but Gracie and Luke as well.

I know you'll pick the perfect name for your angel:)!

Miss you!

p.s. Enjoy the chai!

Another suggestion from the Burkhardts...

I'll let you guess whose idea it was:)!

You already know that I like Henry - I especialy love the way it sounds with Hedenberg. It's a good strong name that would carry him through to adulthood.
My given name is Patricia, which I don't like - but I have to use for official business. So, in new situations or in classes, I have to correct people until they know I go by "Patti". Andrew or Tyler will have the same situation, Grace and Luke won't run into that.
You've got to go with what feels right for you and Ben - we can all chime in, but the decision should be yours.

See you Thursday.

I'm also a big fan of Henry. It's such a cute name for a little boy, but it also carries over nicely into adulthood. But I must admit that I really LOVE the name Charlie.

I bet, though, that you guys will take one look at him when he arrives and know EXACTLY what he should be called! Do Gracie or Luke have an opinion at all?

Nini's Older Sister agrees with Baby, please no Xavier (Think defrocked Irish priest)! School years would be painful. Not crazy about Henry (although I know Paul has an uncle Henry, he's not a Hedenberg, is he?) It makes me think of Henry Higgins and the song from My Fair Lady -- Just You Wait, Henry Higgins!

I would cast my very small vote for Drew, with Tyler a possibility.
Love Grace and Luke.

Henry Hedenberg also struck me as having a nice ring to it - cute enough for a kid and sophisticated enough for an adult. Not so sure about the teen years, though. It will probably morph into a nickname by then...(Hank?)

I also like Drew. But no matter what his name is, we will love him just the same.

Andrew (Drew), what happened Ben lose a bet with a Spangler? Why not Ryan? Just giving you a hard time, like always. I like the name Andrew. I think I'll call him Andy.

Henry, that's on my list of worst names. You might as well name him Gary or Frank. There is no way to keep people from calling him Hank. You have a Gracie, and a Lukey, can I call him Hankie?

As for the other names, I like Tyler and Max. You should name him Max Power Hedenberg.

For those commenting on Xavier, I suggest that soley as a middle name. I think the name is good, but having an "X" as your middle initial, how cool is that. Henry X Hedenberg. He will be a rock star for sure!

I love both Charlie and Henry although I have to admit I prefer Charlie. I love little boys with classic manly names. so cute! And I also believe both are names that are recognizable but not overused so he won't have a wierd name but also not a real common one. That's the way I always felt about my name. Also I always loved that other than nicknames I have a name that is not one that I go-by anything but my whole name (no confusion there). My mom stole this reasoning from me but she did that with both me and Bryan (sorry Benjamin, Benny, Ben) and Grace an Luke have that too.

I refuse to say I don't like any of the names just in case that is what you decide on!

I concur regardless of his name he will be loved

i love Xavier
Hi this is will saying i like henry the best but you pick the one you like.

see you thursday
I have to agree with my very bright son William. I like "Henry Ross Hedenberg" for all the obvious reasons.
We're excited to see you on Thursday ;-)

Oh, and that is one smart baby if he can post on your blog!

I too am really impressed that this little guy can already post comments! I guess he's had lots of practice watching me. :)

Meaghan, Gracie can't commit to a name either, though she really liked Gavin when we were tossing that idea around (just a whole day before Ben said "absolutely not!"). She likes to talk to my belly and try out different names to see if any name will make him kick.

Luke wants to name him Bologna Sandwich and call him Sam.

Henry Hedenberg... Drew Hedenberg... Charlie Hedenberg... Cal Hedenberg...

I think they are all really cute names so it's a win-win situation for your little guy. However, there will end up being one name that is perfectly suited for him and you won't ever be able to imagine him as something else!

P.S. I too love the name Noah, but I guess that shouldn't be surprising, huh?

Henry Ross Hendenberg is my absolute favorite. I think you already know I love Henry for a boy's name. It's in my family and I agree with others who said it's a classic name. I do not like Hank at all but I don't think that will automatically be his nickname...if any nickname. Henry is too cute to want to shorten or change :) I do however agree with Ben's X as a middle initial. That is pretty awesome. It's so mysterious.....

After talking about the baby's name yesterday, we discussed it a little on the way home. Barb and I concluded that we like "Noah" and Bridget concurred. I know Ben doesn't really like it, but I think "Grace, Luke and Noah" sound good together.

Thanks for a great time yesterday.
Ok, yes we all (Patti, Barb, Joe and Will) decided we like "Noah" on the way home yesterday. But I still like Henry or Charlie the best. Actually, I like Ross the best because it goes really well with Hedenberg. Ross Koski (as if I was thinking about a 4th boy!) just wouldn't work. We will love him madly no matter what!

I think Cal is great because of the link to "Calvin and Hobbes" connection. I also like the alliteration with Henry Hedenberg. Henry is also a nice nod to uncle Henry who is rather sick. It also jibes well with the reason that you guys got pregnant with Grace.

O.K., more to say. I like Max as well. That was the name of my goldfish when I was real young. It was a fish that Barb saved when she was in high school. That should tell you how long ago it was. Noah has been done too much lately. I am have a hard time thinking of this. I keep looking at the picture of Luke with the hat on when he is maybe 4 months. I keep laughing when I am trying to think of a name for the new little one.
