this & that
We've had a good past three or four days. Curriculum Night went very well. Gracie's teacher was very high-energy- a great trait for a kindergarten teacher to have! I was impressed with her organization and enthusiasm and really feel like it will be a good year for Gracie.
At one point during her presentation, she began passing around work samples for the parents to see while she continued explaining her classroom procedures. One of the binders she passed around contained the portraits that the students drew showing their faces on the first day of school. The parents were sitting alphabetically and the work samples were in the binder alphabetically. The mother before me chuckled as she handed me the binder. As soon as it was in my hands, I saw why. Gracie's face had the absolute biggest, hugest smile possible- her face was almost all mouth! On top of that, she had drawn in huge red lips. Her portrait looked a bit like the Joker. Ben and I had a good laugh, all the while trying not to disturb the other parents around us who were still listening to the teacher and had no idea what we were finding so funny.
Unfortunately- let's just blame it on the hormones- I could not stop laughing. The harder I tried, the more amused I was. I was wiping away tears and trying to be as inconspicuous as possible. Don't you hate those uncontrollable giggles?!?
Friday morning was spent at the park enjoying the playground and a picnic lunch before taking Gracie to school. Luke had a long nap that afternoon and I curled up on the couch with a book. It was wonderful!
We were lucky to have lots of time with family and friends this weekend. The Halls came over Friday night and Mom, Dad, Erin, and Addison drove over to spend the day with us on Saturday. They really wanted me to go into labor while they were here, but no such luck. :) Erin was suggesting spicy foods for lunch and the girls did lots of walking around the mall, but no signs of labor. He will arrive when he is ready. He will arrive when he is ready. He will arrive when he is ready. This is my mantra these days. :)
We have a new swing set at our house. A coworker of Ben's was kind enough to offer us her unwanted swing set and Patti and Paul wonderfully drove over last weekend in Paul's truck to
pick it up. The kids could not be any more excited about their new treasure.
This morning marked the last Sunday of the summer Sunday School session we've been enjoying at church. I've really enjoyed volunteering and spending time with the three, four, and five year olds. The things they say! Last week one little girl told me that she made her mommy puke every morning when she was in her uterus. I wasn't sure what to say to that! This morning another little girl asked me to lift up my dress so she could see the baby.
That's about it for us. It's a lazy Sunday afternoon at our house. Gracie and Luke are playing, Ben is napping, and I'm relaxing with some scrapbooking, blogging, and reading. Hope your Sunday is going as well.
