harmony

Luke is away at Boy Scout Camp and Gracie is off at Middle School Orientation. I had grand plans to take my littles to go do something fun this morning since it is a rare occurrence to have the two of them all to myself on a quiet weekday. I thought about the Magic House or the Butterfly House. I thought that at the very least we should pack a picnic and head to the park.

At nine o'clock I told them I had to finish up two orders so they can be shipped this afternoon, but that we could head out to do something as soon as I could get the signs finished. Fast forward two hours--- the signs are long completed, my desk is cleaned off, and I checked off a couple of other tasks on my to-do list - and still we are not in a hurry to leave. I would be crazy to interrupt their play and break the lovely spell over the house this morning. They are happy as can be playing up in their room. Together. In harmony. It's wonderful.

I have heard giggling and lots of sentences that start with, "Let's pretend that....". A while ago I heard Drew reading to Katie after a quick holler down of, "Hey, MOM??? Can Katie get up on my bed with me if we promise to be careful?" About thirty minutes ago, Katie was sent to ask me for a not messy snack that they could leave the kitchen with. I have had a couple of little questions here and there, but for the most part, the two of them have been entertaining one another for almost two hours now.

Who needs The Magic House on mornings like this? I am so thankful for moments when I can see that they do really love one another.

I think it is great for Drew to get to be the big brother for awhile and sort of get to be in charge. I was thinking about it last night (while I was trimming bushes) - he's got to feel like he is always running to keep up with Luke. With Katie, he gets to be the boss - at least a little!
