Boy Scout Camp
Luke is off at Boy Scout Camp this week. This was a very last minute decision on his/our part. Registration for camp was three months ago at a time in our family's life when Boy Scout Camp was very, very low on the list of things we were worried about. We did not get Luke registered and forgot all about it. On Saturday afternoon- about twenty hours from start time for camp- we found out that there was a last minute opening in our troop's group at camp. With some very quick communication with the troop's leader, we got Luke signed up to attend.
Ben texted me these pictures as he was getting Luke settled in:
Ben reports that Luke will have a great time at camp.
Tonight was a little rough for me. I was already feeling a bit nervous about Luke off at camp, so tornado sirens going off because of severe weather all around the area did not calm my nerves. As we waited out the storm from the basement, I kept wondering and worrying what weather Luke was having. As the news talked about tornado sightings, quarter-sized hail, and strong winds, I hated picturing Luke in that flimsy little tent in the middle of nowhere. I have been pretty grouchy all evening.
I really am happy for Luke that he is getting to experience sleep away camp for the first time and know that he will have a good time. I will be pretty happy when he is back at home under my roof once again, though. (And then I will have two weeks to recover until Gracie goes away to camp for a week. sigh.)
We had other plans all evening last night, so we couldn't really pack his bag until this morning. We got up and worked as a family to get his supplies organized. With one really quick visit to CVS right before church, we managed to have him ready to leave for camp at noon. We fed him a big lunch and then he and Ben took off. Luke was nothing but excited, but I will admit to being a bit sad and nervous to see him go.
