{Pere Marquette Fall Camping Trip}

We are spending our Saturday night relaxing at home after a fun 24 hour camping trip to Pere Marquette State Park. We were thrilled to get to enjoy this trip with both sets of our parents.  It was neat to see the grandparents carve out little chunks of time for special time with the kids, things like a long walk for Gracie and my mom or a long trip to the playground for Nini and Drew. We filled our twenty four hours in Grafton with laughter and talking and UNO and knitting and cooking over the campfire and exploring the park.

The kids had a wonderful time and were more than a little upset when Ben and I opted for heading home at dinnertime tonight rather than staying a second night. Truth be told, the kids probably could have been just fine- albeit dirty and tired- staying another night, but Ben and I had a bad night of sleep on Friday and felt a hot shower and sleeping in our own bed sounded too good to pass up. It was raining off and on throughout the day, too, so we just couldn't get excited about the prospect of sleeping in a potentially damp tent with kids. (In fact, as I sit here and type to the sound of the rain outside, I am awfully glad we opted out of a second night!)

We arrived home around 6:00 and threw our muddy children into long baths. We determined that no ticks made their way home with us and that I am the winner of the bug bite contest this time around with over thirty bug bites. Fun. It was then a much-needed early bedtime for Gracie, Luke, and Drew. I am currently killing time with blogging and laundry while waiting for my little night owl to get sleepy so I can crash myself.

Thank you to Patti, Paul, Mom, and Dad for your time and love! My kids are so lucky to have you four as their grandparents.

We had a great time, despite the rain. We are blessed to share our lives not only with you, Ben and the kids, but also with your Mom and Dad. We sat in Pere Marquette Lodge Saturday night, sharing a couple of bottles of wine and lots of stories! Sunday morning, after breakfast in the lodge, we checked out the cabins and the pool - and made plans to come back with everybody! (Even Hitler - because that's how we roll!) Thanks Ben and Leslie - and Mark and Pam - for a really fun weekend!
