{an unexpected visit}

On Sunday my dad called me with the news that he would be able to come see us for a short visit this week. He had been in Atlanta for a conference and said he couldn't stand to be within a few hours of our house and not stop to see his grandbabies. He thought it would be really fun to surprise the kids and he asked me to keep his visit a secret from them until his arrival on Tuesday.

When his time of arrival was approaching yesterday, I took the kids outside to play. As they rode their bikes in our driveway, Gracie was the first to spot him. The expression on her face was priceless! As he walked into our yard, I saw her expression change from confusion to excitement as she said, "Grandpa??... ..GRANDPA!!" and ran to him, followed closely by her two brothers.  It was a neat moment.

We're filling his brief visit with fun. Last night we all went to watch Gracie at gymnastics and then went out to dinner together. We spent most of our day today together at the zoo. Tonight looks like lots of playtime and some giggling together to Scooby Doo. The kids are so happy to have their grandpa here for a mid-week treat and I always love the chance to spend time with my dad.

Mom, we are really missing you today! Wish you were here too! Darn work! :)
