{a little rough around the edges}

Looking at the mirror this afternoon, I feel the need to offer a light-hearted explanation as to why mothers of newborns look a little "tired" (Gracie's term) most of the time.....

1. We are tired.

2. We take really fast showers while continuously sticking our heads out of the curtain to make sure we don't hear anyone crying, screaming, or causing problems.

3. Ponytails are the hair style of choice, unless we like the look and feel of dried spit up matting chunks of our hair together.

4. Necklaces are out because they don't make comfortable pillows for soft little baby cheeks.

5. We are really tired.

6. We don't put on anything that can't be thrown into the washer and put right back on since we change our clothes multiple times each day.

7. There is no time for ironing; the amount of time it takes to iron something is just about equal to the amount of time that item can be worn before it, too, is covered in baby poop, pee, or spit up.

8. We are between sizes and have few articles of clothing that actually fit us well. Maternity clothes are too big and uncomfortable. Our regular clothes are too small and uncomfortable.

9. It is hard to find the time or energy to blow dry our hair, paint our nails, or even put on make-up. If we have any free time at all, we would really rather sit down with a nice cup of coffee or close our eyes for a second.

10. Did I mention we are a bit tired? ;)

So a month ago you thought you would be sleeping more/better when she got here. How's that going?:)

Amen! Though I would say much of this still goes for mothers with toddlers/preschoolers as well (except with out the spit up/pee/poop ... most of the time) or is that just me ;)? It's so worth it though!

I am laughing out loud at this as I am in my second outfit of the day, my hair is in a ponytail, and I'm chugging a soda hoping the caffeine does wonders! Well said, Leslie and so so true.

Yes, Lauren, it is- but it is completely, 100% worth it! Congratulations again!
