If I had a camera.....
If I had a camera that wasn't broken, there are so many things I could post about this evening.
I could share a picture of the state of our house right now with one of two captions, either "This is what single parenting looks like for me." or "This is what you don't want your house to look like the night before your wonderful mother-in-law is coming to visit." :)
I could share a picture of the hat and dress that Gracie helped me pick out for the Kentucky Derby this weekend. She had definite ideas about what I should or should not wear.
I could share a picture of the paint all over the bathroom floor with the caption "This is why you should never start painting at ten o'clock when you are tired." Ben, if you are reading this...it's already fixed. No worries. :)
I could share a picture of the built in bookcases in the basement family room, now freshly painted red. I can not believe how many coats it took to get the true shade of red to show through! Almost every day this week when Drew napped I grabbed my paintbrush and added another coat. I am really happy with the results, though, and don't regret starting the project at all.
Lastly, I could share the fifteen bags of leaves waiting at our curb to be picked up tomorrow morning. Sadly, we have barely scraped the surface of the backyard. It is going to take us months to get it all cleared. A neighbor told me yesterday that we have already done more to the yard in the month that we have lived here than the previous owners had done in the twenty years that they were here. I wish I enjoyed yard work.
Since I can't share pictures of any of these things.... :)
Our week has been long and has reminded me that my life is better with Ben in it. He has been away a lot for work and I am so excited to have him home all week next week (I think). I can handle the kids and the house on my own, but it's a whole lot more stressful and a whole lot less fun!
I'm really looking forward to seeing Patti tomorrow and then heading to Louisville on Saturday. Ben has three days of schmoozing and work events surrounding the derby and spouses are invited too. Seeing as we have just moved eight hours away from our extended family and children are definitely not invited, I was pretty sure I was going to be sitting this year out, much to Ben's disappointment. Patti went above and beyond the call of Nini -duty and offered to fly here for a four day visit, giving me a chance to head to Louisville for some of the events. The kids could not be more excited for her visit, and I can't wait to see her too.
