{a Thursday evening happy list}
Warning: this may be long and rambling. It is very late, the kids are long asleep, Ben is out of town, I am waiting up for my parent's arrival, and I still have no cable. :)
It's been a great day and I know it will be a wonderful weekend with my parents as well. A few of the things making me smile today:
1. In the midst of about ten loads of laundry today, I took a break and got a little crafty. A little paint, thumbtacks, hot glue, sandpaper, and a handful of great vintage buttons- all of the sudden I am a lot more excited about the bulletin board that hangs above my desk.

2. I really don't have the best luck with house plants. It's kind of pitiful and it must be surprising for my mom and her uber green thumb. I have managed to keep this alive and looking good for three weeks now. Woo hoo!
3. My plate collection is up on the wall in the dining room. It just makes me happy.

4. With a little paint and distressing, Luke and I gave the chairs in the office a little makeover this week as well. I can not get enough of this shade of blue lately.

5. I really like these kitchy Knoxville postcards I picked up at Borders. I intended to mail them to friends, but later decided to frame them and use them as decoration instead.

6. I just discovered fabric.com and I am in love. If you've ever tried to shop for fabric with three kids, you understand why. This website has an amazing selection of fabric at prices lower than I am used to- and offers free shipping on orders over $35. On Sunday morning I picked out this cute hedgehog fabric (with a lot of help from Luke) to make curtains for the playroom. The order arrived on Tuesday afternoon. I'm hooked.

7. Can you believe this is what I get to see every time I step out my front door? We had no idea what a gorgeous surprise was waiting for us until it bloomed over night last week.

8. This little organizational tip I picked up from my good friend Allie makes me happy. Hang a shoe organizer on the inside of your pantry door to catch small, frequently used items like baggies, packets of oatmeal, granola bars, etc. Why hadn't I ever thought of this? I love things that make life easier.

9. Drew's hair is seriously out of control, but it just makes me smile. It doesn't always look quite this bad; he had just woken up from his nap when I snapped this picture.

10. I love the seriousness with which Luke approached his drawing time today.

11. Have you tried these? Mmmmmmmmmm.

12. Gracie and Luke got their own library cards this afternoon. Watching them sign their names on the back was adorable; I wish I could be so enthusiastic about life. :)
13. I am in the market for a big fancy hat. We are going to the Kentucky Derby in two weeks and Ben has informed me I must wear a pretty sundress and a big fancy hat. I think I will be hat shopping this weekend. Where does one buy big fancy hats?
Happy now- Friday morning! Have a wonderful weekend!

I'm lovin that tree outside your window. And my boyfriends hair too.
miss ya'll. Have fun with your parents this weekend. Soak up every second.
I'm glad things are going so well. Your blog is a real upper for me today. I can feel the joy oozing out. Have a great weekend with your folks. I remember how much a visit would mean from mine, living out of state. We're looking forward to seeing the Hedenbergs in the near future.
Sandi
Also, lovin this artistic side of you!!
Karin, after looking a couple of places this week and having no luck, I really would appreciate if you could let me know where your sister's sister in law finds her hats. I don't want to spend a fortune since it is just one day, but Ben really is gung-ho about me wearing one! :) He's also searching for a seer sucker suit.......
Sandi, we are looking forward to seeing you soon as well. We'll finalize plans around Patti's visit at the end of May. I'm so glad you enjoy the blog.
Allie, thanks, but I actually prefer your organizer to mine. The clear pockets you have make much more sense. I had this shoe organizer from my closet at our old house and couldn't use it in my closet here, so it got repurposed in the pantry. Miss you too, friend!
