some little things-
1. Today is Gracie's last day of elementary school. She has a celebration first thing tomorrow morning at school and then she is officially done. If you know me well, you might expect me to be sentimental about this, but I am shocking myself with my own nonchalance about the whole thing. Maybe because she is just so darn excited about heading off to sixth grade….. maybe because the poor thing has attended six schools since she was three…. maybe because I got it all out of my system at preschool graduation last week…. whatever the reason, I am doing okay with this milestone. (Though I might feel differently once I get to her ceremony tomorrow morning. I am a goner when sappy, sentimental music is played to photography, so if there is a slideshow, I'll be a mess.)
2. Two-thirds of the family has a bad cold. May is not the time of year when I expect to be dealing with much sickness. Luckily, the two still in school are the two without the cold. Unluckily, the youngest in the family is quite a grouch when she doesn't feel good. It's been a doozy of a week.
3. Luke had homework yesterday to write a postcard to Future St. Louis. This postcard will be placed in a time capsule to be opened in 2064. Luke began telling me about this assignment the second he got in Hank at school pick up and then continued talking about this assignment throughout the drive home and during after- school snack. He said he wondered if time travel would be created by then, decided that it was a possibility, and then decided that it was not impossible that he would get a response almost immediately after writing the postcard if someone came back in time to answer him. He decided to close it with his entire name so that the future St. Louisan reading it could find him to bring him a response.
I love that mind of his.
4. On Tuesday a friend invited Drew, Katie, and me over to hang out for the afternoon. While the kids played, my friend and I had a little small-business owner brainstorming session. She also runs a very small business and is also looking for ways to grow it. My talk with her was so energizing! Since then, I have listed more items, ordered business cards to attach to outgoing orders, and grown my Facebook "likes" by thirty people. My etsy shop views yesterday were fifteen times the number of views I had the entire week prior. In the past twenty-four hours, I have had seven orders come in on Facebook and one order on etsy.
It was nice to get a little motivation from her and to have someone to brainstorm with. I am realizing how good the etsy shop is for me; it uses parts of my brain that mothering all day does not.
5. I am really, really looking forward to this weekend. Short of a couple ball games over the three days, we really don't have Memorial Day weekend plans and I am very good with that. As a family, we don't sit around very well, so I am sure we'll end up making plans, but as of right now anyway, the weekend is open.
