Gracie's last Bravos concert

Tonight Ben and I attended Gracie's final elementary school choir concert. It was such a wonderful performance and I loved every moment of it, but the most special part of all happened about halfway through the concert. Gracie had hinted that there was a surprise for me at some point in the concert, but didn't want me to know any details. She told me she would let me know during the concert when it was time to get my camera ready.

When her choir director announced the name of the song, "For Good" from Wicked, Gracie made eye contact with me and grinned. It is one of my favorite songs ever, and Gracie knows it. To make it even, even better, Gracie and seven other girls walked to the front of the group and began the song for the group, singing the first thirty seconds or so on their own. It was beautiful.

I don't have great video to share. We hired a sitter for Luke, Drew, and Katie since the concert didn't start until Katie's bedtime, but she was late getting to our house, so we were not as early to the concert as we needed to be to get a decent seat. We were seated in the very last row. When Gracie let me know it was the special song, the best solution I could think of without disturbing anyone else was to walk to the edge of the gym and try to record that song from the side.  My fingers are crossed that maybe one of the other parents will share better video on the school's YouTube channel.

After the concert ended, we headed to a favorite wine and dessert cafe in Old Webster and let Gracie pick out one of the delicious desserts on the menu. It was a fun date with our Gracie girl.

She's such a good girl, our Gracie. She had a huge smile on her face all night long and was just fun to watch. During one of the songs when Gracie was playing percussion, Ben leaned into me and whispered, "She's such a go-getter!" We just couldn't be any more proud of her, truly we couldn't.

My favorite song from "Wicked", too - it makes me cry listening to the sound track. I would have joined you in a puddle of tears on the floor - but I still wish we could have seen it.
