kitchen project, part two
Although there are still just the teeniest, tiniest finishing touches to do, our kitchen is no longer covered with tools, plaster dust, paint trays, and wood and we are declaring it time for "after" pictures. I am so, so pleased with the end result!
A reminder of the before:
And a few shots of the after:
I can't tell you how happy I am with this kitchen tweak. I am so happy with the bigger fridge, which I am pretty sure may just be a necessity with a family of six. I am so happy with having water and ice on the door of the fridge, which has been surprisingly great at getting us all to drink a little more water around here. I am so happy with the pantry and all of the storage it is giving us. I am so happy that Ben and I were able to collaborate to create a design we both like.
What is especially neat about this project is that the cabinet above the fridge has traveled with us since our first house on Itaska. It was one of the original kitchen cabinets in that home and when we found it in the basement there, I fell in love with it. It hung above my art table in Zionsville and hung in Gracie's room in Knoxville, but has been sitting in our basement since we moved here. With more than a little tweaking on Ben's part, we were able to once again give it a home, and now it looks as if it has always been a part of this kitchen.
The project felt like it went on for a long time, but in reality, it was only a month ago that we discovered the pantry space behind our fridge. It wasn't a cheap kitchen tweak by any means (especially since it involved a new refrigerator), but it wasn't really all that bad considering how much we gained from it. Using a door that was in our basement as well as reusing the cabinet helped keep costs down. I even used a gallon of paint that we already had to paint the walls and a paint sample I already had to paint the pantry door. Things just came together pretty nicely on this project.
I feel like saying thank you, once again, to Ben. The hours of work you put into this project after getting home from long days at work were noticed and very appreciated.
