{a quiet week}
It's 9:30 in the morning and today I have already baked muffins, got two big kids ready and off to school, washed two loads of laundry, showered, played in the driveway with Drew, bathed Drew and Katie, read five books, wasted time on my computer, read a magazine while Drew watched a cartoon, tidied up the main rooms of the upstairs, pulled Kate's outgrown 0-3 month clothing out of her closet, and put Drew down for a rest.
Like all of the days of this week, today started way too early for my liking.
I really wish I understood why Katie and Drew have both suddenly decided that 4:45ish is a good wake-up time. I am not sure which one is waking up the other, but they are both awake, calm, and rearing to go. I would go so far as to say they are in good moods, though it is hard to find anyone pleasant that early in the morning.
Other than the start of the school year, it's been a quiet week... or maybe it is the start of the school year that has made it a quiet week. It is a sad adjustment to getting used to Gracie and Luke both being gone all day, every day. Katie still sleeps so much of her day that it is just Drew and me for the majority of the day. He has been really lost without his playmates and asks quite often how long it will be until they get off the bus.
I've been reading lots of Maisy books and playing lots of cars and trains this week. We have enjoyed the cooler temperatures and have also spent hours outside. Drew has been so content to drive his bike up and down the driveway or to play with his sand and water table that I have been able to clean out the entire garage- we can actually park in it!- , weed all the flower beds, and begin painting the garage door. It's nice to be outside without dripping with sweat.
Sidenote- Our garage door has seen better days, but a new one isn't in the budget this year, so I decided to try a fresh coat of paint to see if it would help. I started the primer coat yesterday, turning the door from white to black. I stepped back to see how it was looking and Drew copied me. I said, "How does it look, buddy?" He immediately responded, "That looks kind of awful." That boy makes me laugh!
