{our last hoorahs}

We've been awfully busy around here enjoying the last week of summer break.

sigh.  I hate that they are already heading back to school. sigh. sigh.. sigh.

Last Thursday night I told the kids we would be doing at least one fun thing for every remaining day of break. They loved the idea and wanted to know all of the plans, but I wouldn't share.  They wanted clues, but I wouldn't give them. They wanted to guess and have me answer yes or no, to which I finally agreed, so each night before bed they have had three guesses for the next day's activity, which has added to the fun a bit.

Last Friday we met another family for Open Play at a great gym in the area. The kids all ran, jumped, bounced, and climbed to their hearts' content. It was lots of fun and good exercise too. The kids all slept really well that night!

Monday's activity was a playdate at our house with one of our favorite Knoxville families. My friend Amber has five kids and her kids and my kids all match up perfectly in ages (with an extra four year old thrown in), so it is always fun when we get together. Her children are so sweet and so well-behaved; I don't think we've ever had a bad time with them. The kids ran all around the house and Amber and I got to just sit with our babies and catch up for a bit. Good times.

Tuesday's activity was school shopping with Gracie and Luke. They really enjoyed picking up all of their new supplies, water bottles, P.E. shoes, and lunch boxes. We played at home all afternoon and then that evening Gracie had gymnastics and an End-of-the-Summer pizza and pool party with her Brownie troop. A very full day.

Wednesday brought Movie Morning, First Grade Open House, and breakfast for dinner. We have a new waffle machine and the kids just love to make waffles with me. They shout with excitement every time the light changes to indicate the waffle is ready. It's the simple things in life, right? :)

Today we met some friends at a local Childrens' Museum and it was such a great time! I can't say enough good things about this museum- it was uncrowded, hands-on, fun, and inexpensive. Normally I feel frazzled alone with the kids in very public places like zoos or museums, but I never felt uncomfortable today. The highlights were the large polar bear, the rainforest room, the water exploration area, the train room, and the imaginative play house. Allisen, the mom of the family we met, has four kids as well- a third grader, a first grader, a three year old, and a newborn. Sound familiar? All of the children got along well, but Drew and Sam were especially cute together.

The fun continued tonight with a Reading Sleepover in the living room. I set up their tent and asked them to round up sleeping bags, pillows, stuffies, and lots and lots of favorite books.. Right after dinner, we out on our pajamas and headed into the tent to read together. Even Katie seemed happy in the tent looking at the flashlight projections against the side of the tent. Drew wasn't able to handle bedtime in the tent, but Gracie and Luke wanted to sleep there for the night.

Tomorrow ends our week with a playdate with some neighbors in the morning and Third Grade Open House in the afternoon. Ben will still be out of town until late in the evening, so I think we'll enjoy the slightly cooler weather being forecasted and have a simple picnic dinner on the deck.

I have really had so much fun with the kids this week, probably just as much fun as they did!  I am sure I'll be remembering this week with a smile in a few months when the busy-ness of the school year sets in.
