Gracie is at school, Luke is playing with his firehouse, Drew is sleeping, the house is clean...... finally a moment to sit and update the blog!
Drew had his one week check-up yesterday and the report is wonderful. He has regained his birth weight and then some, and now weighs nine pounds.... nursing is going really well. He still sleeps most of the time, but will occasionally give us about thirty minutes of alertness to ooh and aah over him. He is just so sweet that I find myself holding him and staring at him for hours at a time. I love the way he cuddles in the crook of my neck, the dimple on his left cheek, his smell, his coos, the silly faces that he makes when he is filling his diaper.......all in all, I'm completely infatuated with my sweet little guy. And as soon as we can get our days and nights figured out, things will be even better. :)
Luke is having a bit of a hard time sharing his mommy with the new baby. We've seen lots of strange behavior over the past week. It gets a little better each day, so I think we'll just have to wait it out. The best way I can describe it is that he has turned up his volume and energy level a couple of notches. He is generally fine as long as we are at home without any extra stimulation, but if you throw a visitor or an outing in the mix, he really has a hard time. Poor kid.
We went to an Open House at his preschool last night and I continue to be impressed with their program. According to Luke, the best parts of his school are the Lego table and the playground. According to me, the best parts are the patient, experienced teachers and the learning activities I hear about every day. The school is just a good fit for Luke- and me. ;)
Gracie is completely head over heels in love with her new baby brother. She has taken to carrying a baby doll around the house with her and likes to mimic everything that I do with Drew. It is competely adorable, but she is definitely not trying to be cute; she is very serious about mothering her babies.
Her class went on the first field trip of the year this morning to go pick apples and pumpkins at an orchard. She was very, very excited about the morning, especially the ride on the school bus. I can't wait to hear about it this afternoon.
Ben and I are tired, but happy. We can't take our eyes off of Drew, but are also doing everything we can to make sure that Gracie and Luke are still getting plenty of time with us and all of the attention that they are used to. We're all adjusting.
