No.

Leslie: Katie, if you'll put your shoes on, we'll go birthday shopping for a present for Drew before it's time to pick the kids up from school. What would you like to get him?

Katie: (not missing a beat) I think I will get him a rock and a red crayon and a green and blue and black toy car.

I was amused that this answer came out of her mouth with zero seconds of thought behind it. I have no doubt that this answer will stick and she will search at the store for a green and blue and black toy car. I document it on here because it perfectly exemplifies life with Katie these days- this is a girl who knows exactly how she wants things to go.  Most of the time it is just kind of amusing. Sometimes, well, it's not so cute. I love age three, but man oh man, does it bring some headstrong moments with it!

Kate is all of the sudden adamant about picking exactly what she would like to wear, eat, read, and do. She will tell me things like, "I will not wear those shoes because I want to wear these boots." and "I will not eat that dinner because I want yogurt and apple slices." I try to choose my battles and let her have ownership of her choices when I can, but also want to make sure that she knows she is not able to get her way all of the time.

A little bit more frustrating is that Katie has fully embraced the word "no" over the past two weeks since beginning preschool. If she's feeling sweet, it comes out as"no please" and is said with a smile, as if just testing the waters.  If she's not feeling so sweet, it is said with quite a tone of defiance. Fun. Last night she had to spend some time in time out because she flat out refused to do something that I asked her to do. The task that could have been completed in less than ten seconds ended up being a ten minute power struggle.

I know this is an important phase in child development and is completely normal because it is now the fourth time I've gone through it, but still, I look forward to the passing of this phase!
