{storms}

If I was a worrier, I would be having a hard time tonight.

As are most of you who will read this, we are having really scary weather tonight. We spent awhile taking shelter in the basement with sirens blaring and hard rain or hail hitting the house. (Still not sure which one.)

Just as we felt it was safe to come upstairs to put everyone to bed, Katie started throwing up. At the exact same time, Ben got a call that his office was damaged by a tornado.

Holy moly.

In the past hour, I've gotten Katie cleaned up and put four kids to bed, all the while keeping at least part of my attention on the news but trying not to be obvious about it so as not to worry the kids.  I see Decatur right in the path of the storm.

Ben and Ryan (his good friend and coworker) are driving to Earth City to see how much damage was done to his building. The news discourages travel in the area because of extreme traffic, closed roads, down power lines, and trucks tipped over. Good thing I am not a worrier or anything, or it might really bother me that my husband is out in this.

The sky is currently lit up with lightning. I can't seem to stop watching the news showing damage all around the metro area as well as reports of tens of thousands of homes and businesses without power. We are under a flash flood warning with another four inches of rain predicted to fall over the next eight hours.

I would like to go to bed and call it a night, but between Katie occasionally whimpering a little bit on the couch next to me as I type (I get a towel ready with superhuman speed each time she does) and Ben being out in all of the damage, I think I will be up for a while.

But again, good thing worrying really isn't in my nature, or this could be a long evening.

In an effort to end this post on a more upbeat note..... and to distract myself....... I'll share these pictures I got of Katie and Drew this morning:

These two. The "littles" as they have come to be called around here.

If things are going smoothly between them (sadly it feels like it is only about half the time these days.....)  they are good buds. They just laugh and laugh and laugh together, finding things like baskets and blankets really entertaining. I caught these pictures during what was almost thirty minutes of play inside two baskets. They never left these spots, just giggling and talking and hiding.

* added at seven the next morning- Ben made it there and back home safely. There is a great deal of damage.  He is showering now and heading back to see what needs to be done to begin to clean it up. He predicts they will be out of that office for a month or two while repairs are made. It is awful that Trane was damaged, but I am feeling extremely thankful that it happened in the evening when everyone had left for the weekend. I cringe to think what could have happened if the tornado hit about four hours earlier.....

We are good I think the worst has passed. My parents are without power but other than trees down and some minor damage everything seems ok

So sorry to hear about Ben's work. I hope he made it out there and back okay and that the damage wasn't bad. It was a scary night indeed. I'm afraid I'm passing my strong fear of tornadoes on to Millie :(. It seems the sirens always go off right before she goes to sleep so she's well aware of what is going on. Hang in there and know you aren't the only one "not worried" out there.
So glad that everyone is safe. This crazy weather needs to end!
