the circus
At the beginning of June, Ben and I went to the circus with a big group of friends. We agreed that Kate would LOVE it and talked about taking her before the month was over (it visits St. Louis each June for one month only). Many of our friends said that Circus Flora was one of their favorite annual traditions with their kids, so we really wanted to try to get our family there before June ended.
But life happened (visiting family, baseball and softball games, vacation) and pretty soon it was the last day of June and we had not even discussed it again during the month. But that night, June 30, Gracie was busy with friends. Luke was sunburnt and tired after a visit to the lake with his best friend's family. Ben and Drew had fun plans of their own to see Drew's first concert (an early birthday present). Kate and I were left with no plans for the night and suddenly it seemed like a circus visit in 2019 might happen after all.
The decision was made at 4:30 and by 5:15 we were standing in line to purchase cheap seat tickets at the entrance to the Big Top.
Kate loved, loved, loved it.
For two hours she was smiling and clapping or else completely in amazement. Horses..... performing dogs...... an aerial silks performance....... acrobatics..... what's not to love about the circus when you are eight years old? Despite the heat- because evidently the cheap seats are not air conditioned- she wanted to sit on my lap for a portion of the night just to make sure we were fully enjoying the experience together. ;) Oh, how my Kate loves to cuddle!
She thanked me repeatedly on the drive home and then crashed the second her pajamas were on.
It was a good night.
