Road Trip 2016, day six: Orlando
Kate and I had a very, very special day together today.
We went to DisneyWorld, just the two of us. Ben had Gracie, Luke, and Drew off on an adventure of their own at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Since amusement park tickets x six people = waaayyy too much money, we opted for one day where everyone got what they wanted. Hogwarts and Harry Potter for G, L, D and Ben and princesses galore for Katie Bear.
It is hard to imagine a more special way to spend one on one time with my littlest (even if I am not a huge Disney fan, crowd fan, line fan, or crazy hot weather fan... and our day was all of those things.). Her excitement made the day wonderful for both of us.
She was happy and appreciative and waited extremely patiently in line after line after line after line. Fast Pass was not working, so skipping lines was not an option. The things she was most excited about all had about a twenty minute line, so it wasn't so bad.
Without exaggeration, I can say that we spent half our time at Disney waiting in line to meet a princess or meeting a princess. It was magical to Kate. She had a hat that she asked each princess to sign. She told me she just couldn't decide which princess was nicest or which had the prettiest dress because they were all just so beautiful. Sweet girl.
Katie got to pick out one souvenir of the day and she put so much thought into it! She finally decided on a Rapunzel doll since she had met Rapunzel first thing in our day. Rapunzel came in handy during some of our waits in lines; Katie would just talk and talk to Rapunzel about Disney World.
This day was full of special moments from beginning to end, but the ones that stick out the very most in my mind (and need to be documented somewhere while they are still fresh!) are Katie's love of the tea cup ride (we rode it twice), her excitement over being picked to be in a play with Belle ("I've never been in a play before! This day is so lucky I just can't believe it!"), the way that she, in typical Kate fashion, would chatter to me NONSTOP about each princess before and after meeting them, but would barely speak to them while actually meeting them, the way she fell asleep sitting up on the shuttle drive back to the hotel, and the way she ended our day by saying that the day was just so wonderful that she wishes she could wake up and do it all over again.
This day truly was one of the happiest days of motherhood I've experienced.
Kate fell asleep HARD on the shuttle ride home. Sitting up. I had to lean her over onto my lap where she continued to sleep for the entire noisy ride. When we arrived at the hotel, she was out of it and completely confused, as if she was being woken in the middle of the night. It took her a while to come to. I guess eight hours in extreme heat topped with one of the most exciting days of your five year life is pretty tiring. :)
So very thankful for days like today.
