my sweet Gracie
Across from me in the playroom at this moment is a scene that makes my momma heart swell to an abnormally big size.
Backing up ten minutes..... Luke is upset and frustrated because it is 8:35 at night and his homework - a large project- is not done. He has been working on this project since he got home from school five hours earlier, stopping only for soccer practice and a shower afterwards and for dinner. There is a large posterboard in front of him that he has been steadily working on, but there is much more to do. He is mad and tearful. His classmates had a two hour of chunk at school today to work, but he missed out because he was out of the classroom for Project Plus. He keeps saying, "I just didn't think it would take this long!"
I ask a couple of questions, but before I can even really step in, my big, kind-to-the-core girl asks, "Luke, can I help you?" She calmly and gently asks him what needs to be colored in and in a matter of moments, she has him completely calmed down and working again. The two of them work together, getting Luke's poster map colored at a rate 300 x faster than he was working alone. She asks him questions about his research and he becomes cheerful again, happy to share what he has learned.
By 8:50, the poster is done and the two of them head upstairs for bed.
Raising kind kids is so important to me, something that I want more than anything for my kids. When I see moments like this, I almost have no words. Love, love, love my Gracie girl.
