a day in my life
I have gotten away from the documenting of the little things and that makes me sad. I LOVE to look back at posts about the little things. It makes my heart simultaneously happy and sad to look back on daily life in year's past.
So, just for fun, a sharing of a pretty good day from start to almost finish.
6:15 The day starts. Bear wants out, the kids watch TV and eat breakfast, I have coffee and take a shower. Ben is in Florida this week, so the house is a little quieter.
7:00 Drew and I walk a large order over to a friend/neighbor's house to help with a birthday surprise. Drew finds it really fun to be in on a surprise and is so happy to sneakily leave the sign on their front porch.
8:00 I run the boys to school. Gracie does not have school today because of Parent Teacher Conferences.
8:30 The girls and I walk over to preschool. Gracie is happy to be my Teacher's Aide for the morning. The kids love her and I am super proud to show her off to my students and coworkers. It is a BEAUTIFUL morning and we walk the kids to the pumpkin patch and then take a walk to find leaves. The morning passes very quickly. Gracie leaves at 11:00 to come home to work on a big homework project due Monday.
12:30 Katie and I walk home from preschool and offer to take Gracie to lunch. The girls pick Sweet Tomatoes, of course. We spend the afternoon having lunch and then shopping at Old Navy and Target. Gracie has babysitting money to spend and buys a pair of jeans. Katie picks out a birthday present for her Emmy.
2:45 School pick up for the boys. It is my carpool day, so we drop off a classmate at his house on our way home. The boys are, as always, starving. As they eat snack, I hear about their days. I love this time of day.
3:30 The kids scatter to do their own things. Gracie is back at her homework, Katie wants to play playdoh, and the boys decide to make a fort together. I finish an order and begin to pack our clothes for our overnight to Illinois tomorrow. All is calm in the house, my music is playing, and I am in a great mood, even though I HATE packing.
4:30 The boys want to know if I will run them to the library. We gather some overdue books (always, always overdue books.) and drive to the library to find that it closes at 4:30 on Fridays. boo. While we are out, we stop at the tiny market near our house to pick up one needed ingredient for supper.
5:00 I start potato corn chowder for dinner. Drew has been requesting this for at least a month, so he is a happy guy. While the soup is cooking, I continue with laundry and packing. We are having family pictures taken tomorrow with my family and then attending an outdoor wedding, so the challenge of color coordinated but not too matchy-matchy outfits that are warm enough to wear outdoors for a couple of hours makes a task I never like very much something I am not very happy about doing.
6:00 We are mostly packed, dinner has been enjoyed by all (Except Katie, of course, because she can not every like the same meal as everyone else.), and everyone is in wind down mode. Gracie watches The Voice in the living room, Luke is on his DS in the playroom, Drew is on the laptop in the kitchen, and Katie is playing in the bath. I play around with some pictures I took of the preschoolers at the pumpkin patch today, post some photos to My Home Is My Happy Place, and send out an email about Drew's class Halloween party. All of the sudden, it is 7:00.
7:00 Luke is busy making a birthday card for a favorite newly five year old we know while I read bedtime books to Katie and Drew. Drew usually prefers to read to himself, but ever since the Halloween books came out of storage, he has been joining me each night on the couch as I read to Katie. I love each and every second of it.
7:30 I clean up the kitchen to some really good music and play with Bear for a bit. I contemplate starting some orders, but decide to give myself the night off. The kids are all off in their rooms, either asleep for the night or reading. Ben is due to arrive in about an hour, so I settle on the couch to blog and watch our recorded shows from this week.
It was a nice, nothing-all-that-special, everyday kind of day. And I loved it.
