checking in

It seems I am blogging less these days as I am painting more. This is not a problem for anyone but me, I am sure, but it IS something I need to work on. Blogging, much like exercise, is something I either do consistently or don't do very well at all. I blog best when I am in the habit of writing three to four times a week about anything and everything. When too much time passes between posts, I feel "off" and like I have to write about any big things before I can write about any little things. This blog, though, only works for me if it can catch all of the things- the big and the not so big.

So, to feel back on track, here are some of our things from this weekend---

1. Gracie LOVED camp. LOVED. She wants to go back next year. She has been full of stories and hugs for us. She made lots of friends and tried many new things.  We missed her like crazy.

2. I have been a little swamped with orders. I took a necessary day off from all things related to My Home Is My Happy Place today. I must jump back in tomorrow, though, because there are orders waiting for me on my desk. It is hard to find balance between enjoying the sudden explosion in growth of this shop I've been working on for eighteen months and realizing that there are only three weeks left of summer break before the kids return to school and I start teaching four mornings a week at the preschool. I don't want to waste the last chunk of time I have with the kids this summer working away on signs.

3. Ben and I had a date afternoon today. As we were leaving, we saw that one of the big, beautiful houses in our neighborhood was having an Open House. Ben suggested it would be fun to walk through and I agreed. Bad idea.

This house was unbelievable. It was pretty much just what we are looking for. Perfect neighborhood, an acre lot, all the space we would need, a three car garage, and a great investment because it needs a little love.  Two problems- 1. It is just out of our reach financially.  2. Our house is not even on the market.

I could lie and say it was fun to walk through and dream, but it wasn't. It might have been fun as we walked through the house and oohed and awed over how right it was for us, but it stopped being fun the second we came to our senses and realized that perfect or not, it ain't happenin'.  I made a new rule for myself- no more walking through houses that are priced more than we want to spend. Ever.

4. Hard to believe that school is just around the corner. No matter how long summer was, I admit I still wouldn't feel ready for the end of summer break. I will so miss all of this time with the kids. I know from experience that September will be quite a shock to the system.

5. Grace, Luke, and Drew are all going to play soccer this fall. This is exciting because Gracie has never wanted to play before. Ben LOVES soccer, so he is so happy that he will have three Hedenbergies to cheer on.

6. Katie got a bike with training wheels and began riding over the weekend. I really wish that child would just stop growing up already.

7. Luke is participating in a Spanish Camp this week each morning and a soccer camp each evening. He will have a great time.

My uninterrupted writing time is long over....
