{celebrating 12}

A quick check in as I sit next to an overtired four year old at bedtime---

Gracie is twelve today. I keep waiting to feel sentimental about this, but really I just feel happy watching her excitement. We celebrated her during the day today in a quiet way- meals of her choice, presents (clothes she has had her eye on), some cupcake baking, and some decorating for her birthday party tomorrow.

Tonight we celebrated a little bigger. Her choice of activity for the night was Thai food at The King and I, a trip to the mall to pick out the teal Converse she has been wanting for ages, and then a stroll around the Central West End with a stop at Jeni's for floats.

Tomorrow we will celebrate even bigger. Our little social butterfly is beyond excited to be hosting a bunch of friends for a karaoke party. She has ALL of the details planned- a gold and white color scheme, BBQ and nachos for food, vanilla cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and gold sparkly sprinkles, and lots and lots of music. Her outfit has been planned for two weeks down to the color of nail polish she would like to wear. I am excited for her. (And not happy about the forecasted rain. Again. We've made the decision to move the party indoors.)

On Sunday and Monday we will celebrate as well with a girls' trip to Kansas City. Our birthday trip last year to Nashville was so much fun that we wanted to try to make it an annual event. The location was Grace's to choose and she was pretty excited to give Kansas City a try. We don't know exactly what we want to do there, but we are happy to just explore with no schedule.  I am sure there will be some shopping, some sightseeing, and some great food on our agenda. To make the trip even better, my mom is going to be joining us. We haven't had as much Gram time lately as we'd like, so to have her to ourselves for a couple of days will be a real treat.

This may seem like quite a bit of celebration for one little birthday, but my girl is pretty worthy of the fuss. She has such a sweet, appreciative nature and is so easy going in general that she makes birthday surprises fun. She expects nothing and appreciates everything. I love that about her.
