LaSt dAy!!!!!
Oh my goodness has the final week or two of school been full of fun activities for these four! Everyday there was something going on. These kiddos have wonderful schools and fun, enthusiastic teachers.
I snapped this picture right after school yesterday, our last day. Katie had spent most of the day at the Family Picnic at her preschool. We had just picked Gracie up at school after finishing an all-day party that included ice skating, cupcakes, and pizza. Drew's class had all worn pajamas to school and brought in a blanket and stuffie for an all-afternoon reading party. Luke's teacher threw a Cast Party for them after their last performance of their history play. We were all on our way to Larson Park for the traditional Last Day of School Party in the Park. Luke was then headed out to dinner and to a sleepover with two good friends from his class. The rest of us were meeting Ben at Cheesecake Factory for dinner to celebrate the start of summer.
It was a fun day full of smiles.
It was also full of a few quick tears. How I hate to see the end of the school year when you love your teachers. Drew's sweet teacher was crying as she hugged her students goodbye out front after school. Katie's beloved Miss Laura cried saying goodbye at the picnic that morning. Some parents might not understand it, but I get it completely. I always teared up at least once on the last day of school when I taught. As a teacher, you get completely attached to the children you spend an entire school year with. All-day, every day is a lot of time to spend with someone to have it end so abruptly and with such finality. And, sure, you will see the students again at times, but it will never be quite the same as when they are in your classroom. I get it and feel for teachers experiencing the goodbye.
We're sad to say goodbye to these wonderful, wonderful teachers. (Also to the many outstanding teachers that Gracie had at Steger. I have no pictures to share of them, but we were beyond happy with her sixth grade school year and the quality of the teachers she had. She especially loved her homeroom and science teacher, Mrs. Williams, and her band teachers.)
BRING ON SUMMER BREAK!! WOO HOO!!!
