{nap time struggles}
Katie has recently started protesting each time I put her in her crib and has begun to request, through tears, to fall asleep on our bed instead. For a few bedtimes and nap times this worked out really well. As soon as she was situated in our bed each time, she fell right to sleep. ( I was being careful not to start the habit that Drew is guilty of- needing someone to be near him while he falls asleep.) While it was easy to let her fall asleep on our bed, I wanted her to continue to like to sleep in her own room, so I brought the toddler bed up from the basement and set it next to her crib. She was very excited about it and happily took two naps in it with no protest.
Today, however, this is not the case and she is absolutely cracking me up! She seems to have just discovered that she can easily get up from her toddler bed. I put her down for a nap and walked back out to the kitchen. Not two minutes later, I could hear her yelling for me and trying to get her door open. I opened the door for her and she smiled at me and said, "I sleep good!" Drew and I shared a good laugh about it and I told her she needed to take a rest on her bed some more.
I put her back on her bed, got her settled in, and walked back out to the kitchen. Again, two minutes later, she was up, but this time she walked right into the kitchen and said, "Good morning!"with great enthusiasm. I picked her up and carried her back to her room, but she just kept telling me "Good morning!"
I had to laugh again. I don't know if she genuinely thinks she has napped, or if she is trying to trick me (and, if so, does she think it worked?), or if she just doesn't understand these things that I say to her each morning ("Good morning, Katie Bear! Did you sleep good?") but understands they are said when she gets to get out of bed.
The third and last time that she got up she told me "Katie wate (wake) up! Katie want milk please!" I got her a drink of milk and then asked her if she would like to take her nap on my bed instead. She immediately relaxed and happily went to my room for a rest. This was 45 minutes ago and I haven't heard even a peep coming from my room.
