{reactions to moving}
The kids are having different reactions about the move.
Gracie is pretty much all excited all of the time- asking a ton of questions and talking endlessly about her new bedroom. She keeps cheerfully asking about St. Louis activities- "Can we go back to that pumpkin patch this fall?" "Can we play with Mark and Kelly's cute baby girls?" "Are we going to go to Soulard Market?" She is pretty happy 95% of the time, though she did get a little sad yesterday after her playdate with Lainey ended and she realized how little time they have left to play together before we leave TN next Friday. I got a baseball sized lump in my throat trying to comfort her.
Drew is just confused by the whole concept. He keeps asking questions like, "Are we moving today?" and "Do I get to take my cars with me?" and "Are my grandparents going to live with us in the new house?" "Are there any books in St. Louis?" "Will Miss Kristen be my teacher at my new preschool?" His little world is about to be flipped upside down and he has no idea.
Luke is reacting just like I feared he might. He generally doesn't respond too well to major changes, and this move has been no exception. His behavior really has room for improvement. Last night at dinner we asked each person in the family to think of one fun Knoxville thing to do on Saturday or Sunday since it will be our last weekend here. Everyone was giving answers except Luke, who broke into tears in the middle of Macaroni Grill. The lump in my throat came back, but this time was bowling-ball sized.
This whole moving process is wearing us out. Ben and I have a long and always-growing to do list of relocation tasks. We get caught up in these tasks ("I'll call the title company back and confirm dates with the moving company if you want to look into the P.O. box and call Elayna back...") and lose focus on the most important job we have through all of this- to help the kids settle quickly into our new life in Missouri and to try to make the transition as smooth as possible for our family.
