Unlike my parents, I am definitely more of a night owl than an early bird. Unfortunately, my babies take after their grandparents and like to wake up with or before the sun.
I always groan a bit when Drew announces that it is time to start our day and feel just a bit grumpy about waking up so early, but I have to admit that there's something nice about the way I am learning to start my day. Each morning, Drew eats his breakfast while I sit next to him with my coffee, laptop, and notepad of paper and pen. I have a peaceful thirty minutes or so to wake up slowly and get ready for the day before Gracie and Luke wake up. I read blogs, check facebook, reply to emails, and plan our day.
Right now it's early on Monday morning and Drew and I are the only ones up in the house. I've got that hopeful the-whole-week-is-ahead-of-me-and-I-think-it-will-be-good feeling. We had a really wonderful weekend, the weather is just perfect, and there is nothing we have to get done this week. It's good.
Gracie starts school in two weeks. She is so excited, but I'm feeling a bit sad about having her gone all day every day (kindergarten was only half-day). My good friend Kelly gave me an idea that I think we'll use- I'm going to ask the kids to think of some things they'd like to get done with our last two weeks of summer break. We'll make a big poster-sized list of their ideas and cross them off as we complete them. I think it will be a nice way to make sure it's a great end to a great summer. I'll post our list later today.
Happy Monday!
