I am asked a hundred times on any given day to read to the kids. Luke follows me around with his books and waits until I have a free moment. He'll stand and watch me cook dinner, fold laundry, load the dishwasher, etc- just waiting patiently- and sometimes not so patiently-for a book. I think it is funny that he has learned that if he asks when I am nursing the answer will almost always be yes, so he pounces the second that I sit down with Drew.
Luke's current favorite books are from the Magic Tree House series. He loves hearing about Jack and Annie- a brother and sister team who can travel through time using a magic tree house. We gave him a boxed set of the books for Easter and he has been devouring them ever since! Luke was thrilled to discover that our library has audio recordings of the author reading the books. Now, every afternoon when the kids have a quiet time in their rooms, you can find Luke here:

The other day I told them their quiet time was over and that they could come downstairs for a snack. Luke responded, "maybe later..." For Luke to pass up food for Jack and Annie.....now that's love! :)
We've since had to put a limit on how long he can listen- I really do think he would listen for a couple of hours if given the chance.
I remember being obsessed with series books when I was younger- the feeling of just needing to know what is going to happen next to the characters. The Little House series by Laura Ingalls Wilder was my all-time favorite. I also loved the Babysitters Club series and Sweet Valley High (not quite the same literary category as Little House, but still highly entertaining!).
Any series that you remember reading as a child?

Ironically, I was just taking a break from my children's writing class when I read your blog. Talk about inspiration! I still want to "borrow" Luke's idea about his Chinese brothers traveling to meet him. I will have to interview him next time he is in Decatur. Maybe we can co-author a picture book. :)
I will have to send you some of my children's stories and articles to test market them with your "research" group.

You've done such a good job instilling a love of reading in the kids. It will last them all their lives.
I think Kelly and Luke co-authoring would be a hoot. There is a whole lot of imagination there to be tapped!! Looking forward to seeing you Sunday.
Love,
Patti
