One of the best parts of being Luke's mommy is hearing the way that he says things.... just so Luke. I often hear something and smile or laugh and think, "I'll never forget this," but by the time Ben gets home from work, I've already forgotten what Luke said.
For the past couple of days, though, I've made a conscious effort to jot down some of the things I've heard come out of Luke's mouth: Here are a few-
- Luke was entertaining himself with dice and the pieces of a number puzzle. His game was to roll the dice, count the dots, and try to find a piece with that number on it. He began to shake the dice in his hands very roughly, throwing his arms around while still keeping the dice tucked tightly inside. He said, "Look, Mom. I'm doing this like they do in the grown up world."
- After eating a vitamin at lunch, Gracie was unsuccessfully trying to guess which animal Luke's vitamin had been shaped as. "Look at my teeth. What color are they?" Luke offered as a hint. "White." she answered. "Then I guess that that means I ate a polar bear." he said.
- Luke asked me today, "Can you really fall in love? What does that mean?" I answered, "Falling in love is what you call it when you start to really, really like someone." He responded, "Oh. I fell in love with Crystal before I even saw her." (For those who don't know Crystal, she's Bridget's good friend and sort of part of the Hedenberg family. Gracie and Luke just love her, and so do we.)
- Luke and Grace were playing on their computer and Luke was having a hard time with one of the games. Rather than admit that he needed help, he said, "Sissy, the mouse if afraid with me today. You better do it."
- And evidently Luke has learned at a very young age that flattery will get you everywhere. :) He was requesting chocolate milk and I said I would think about it after we had lunch. Not ten seconds later, Luke hugged my leg and said, "You are my best, prettiest girl in the whole world!"
Another fun part is watching Gracie's reaction to some of the things Luke says. Sometimes she'll giggle, sometimes she'll look at me and shake her head. The other day, she said, "Oh Luke!" in such a grown-up tone that I burst out laughing. Those two definitely keep me amused!
