an all around nice weekend

It was such a relaxed weekend around here- just perfect.

Things that have me smiling:

  • Luke is very interested in marriage lately...lots of questions for me like, "Why did you marry Daddy?" and "Why do you have to wear that ring all of the time?" Friday morning I was giving him a bath and he asked again about my ring, specifically why I get it wet. I told him that I keep it on all of the time because I love Daddy so much and the ring shows that to everyone. He accepted that answer and we moved on. Minutes later, he said, "I wish I had a ring that I could wear to show everyone that I love Pom Pom bear." (Pom Pom Bear is a teddy bear that has been a favorite for a while.)
  • Gracie went shopping with me this afternoon to purchase a few necessities as I am starting to outgrow my clothes. She was the best little cheerleader in the dressing room! I tried on so many things, but didn't like most of them. To each thing I tried on, though, she would say, "Oh, that looks so pretty!"
  • Major progress at church this morning- Luke willingly and with no protest stayed in the three year old room while we went to the service. (background for anyone who hasn't heard me worrying about this: Luke had been fine playing in there last spring and early summer when he and Gracie were in the same room, but when she turned four, she moved to a different room. The couple times that we tried to leave him after that, he was so freaked out that I ended up taking him with me into the service. Guess what? Church with a three year old is not a relaxing and spiritual experience. Since about November, Ben has been staying home with Luke while Gracie and I go to church.) This morning Ben went to the gym and was running late getting back, so Luke went with us. Once we got to church, I half-anticipated that he would end up sitting with me, but I was pleasantly surprised when there was absolutely no drama in the nursery. I stayed a couple of minutes to get him interested in the toys and made sure that he knew the teacher's name. One of my book club friends walked in with her daughter at the absolute best moment possible and we got her daughter and Luke busy at the puzzle table. I told him I would be back to get him and walked out of the room. It was so incredibly easy and unlike the last times that we tried it. Major progress. I am such a proud mommy.
  • Ben occupied the kids this afternoon planting seeds in peat pots in the garage while I got to take a nap. Is there anything better on a Sunday afternoon than a nap? :)
  • Patti came through town last night on her way to Virginia for work and treated us to dinner. Dinner was delicious and it was great to see her. It wasn't until after she left that I realized why the visit felt so different- how odd it was to see her for such a short little outing! With family out of state, our visits are always a minimum of two days long. To see Patti for just three hours felt so strange!
  • I heard a song on the radio last Thursday as I was driving to the doctor's office that had me in tears. I actually had to change the station so I wouldn't have to walk in the doctor's office with red eyes. Darn these hormones! :) My sweet husband downloaded it for me this morning and I have listened to it many times today. For any country fans (especially you, Bryan!), it is "You're Going To Miss This" by Trace Adkins. Have you heard it?
  • Gracie is off of preschool and ballet class this week for Spring Break and is full of ideas of how we should spend our week.
  • The weather this week is supposed to be warmer. I'm optimistic that at least one day this week I'll get to open windows and let some fresh air into the house.
  • I just got an email from the library that four books that I have on hold are ready to be picked up. Between those new books and TV shows finally coming out of reruns, I'm looking forward to some good down-time this week after the kids go to bed. Laundry can wait, right? :)
The kids are finally asleep in their beds. I had promised them I would stay upstairs until they fell asleep- hence the long and rambling blog entry.

I heard this song on "The Apprentice" season finale. Will laughed at me like I was a goof, but I got a bit teary-eyed as well! Such a sweet, heart-warming song!
