Christmas in the Village

Zionsville pulled out all of the stops this weekend to celebrate Christmas! The festivities started at one this afternoon with a parade through the village. Although small, it was really festive. The kids got candy canes and waves from Santa, the elves, and Miss Indiana. Luke especially enjoyed the high school marching band playing Frosty the Snowman. There were live reindeer walking around the village for the children to pet and an art gallery beautifully decorated to host visits to Santa and Mrs. Clause. Santa was great, but very, very s-l-o-w!!! We waited in a not-very-long-line for over an hour to see him; he was very chatty with every family that got their turn. Luckily the kids had hot cocoa and kettle corn to distract them as we waited.

Gracie and Luke's experience seeing Santa was pretty much what Ben and I expected it would be. Gracie hopped right up onto his lap, but Luke was much more hesitant. The picture we took cracks me up- notice Luke's death grip on my hand. We got him to sit with Santa long enough for just one picture. Once he was speaking to Santa from my lap, he became very talkative- we walked him out of the room still telling Santa about animals. :)

After we left Santa, we went to the library for more Christmas fun. Many of you have heard me rave about our library, but it really is just so impressive that I can't help myself. Today was absolutely no exception. The kids watched a marionette show, then got to walk around the library visiting different characters. Among others, they visited the Fairy Godmother, Aeriel, Belle, and Goldilocks. Each character hosted a craft that the children could make. Gracie was in heaven. Watching her excitement, Ben and I agreed- for the hundredth time- that the kids are at the perfect age for a trip to Disneyland.
After so much excitement, it was an early bedtime for the kids tonight.
