a lovely family filled Saturday
Sometimes Saturdays are planned for us with invitations or projects or out of town guests- all wonderful things. It is a treat sometimes, though, to have a Saturday with absolutely nothing planned. We woke up last Saturday with nothing on the agenda and we got to take the day wherever we wanted.
First thing that morning, I painted the sixth and final coat of yellow on our front door. It took a couple of tries to get the shade right, but I am finally happy with it.
After, Ben was aching to go to Soulard. We love to go to Soulard Market. It is really touristy, yes, but always a good time.
After Soulard, we headed to a fabric store I love that's a bit of a haul from our house. The girls and I had a ball roaming the aisles of beautiful fabrics while the boys explored a nearby party supply store.
Lunch was next. We were near an old favorite, so we enjoyed a long and delicious Mexican meal. I love our family lunch dates.
That afternoon, after a couple of chores at home and a nap on the couch for some, we split up for a bit. Ben and L, D, and K watched a movie together off of Ben and Luke's summer movie list. Gracie and I went to do a little early birthday shopping. When your fashion-loving girl is asked what she wants for her birthday, the answer is usually a shopping excursion. We hit a few stores where she carefully spent the money given to her by us. Very, very carefully. Never have I seen spending money be so preciously savored. :) Ultimately, she picked out a photograph display for her bedroom, a dress she's been admiring for months at a favorite store of ours, some workout clothes for her upcoming soccer season, a hat, and a couple of girly tank tops.
We arrived home in time to put Katie to bed for the night. Everyone scattered to their rooms for the night while Ben and I hung out together in the living room, staying up too late to watch a movie.
It was a great Saturday from start to finish, especially so because it was just so relaxed. I am a planner by nature, but sometimes it is wonderful to just let a day take you wherever it wants to.

My kids would love to get a bunny. I tell them that it's not going to happen, but that doesn't stop them from trying to convince me.
my baby girl. Gracie texted this picture to me. I was holding her so she could see something and I realized how infrequently I hold her these days. She's growing up. sigh.
another picture from Gracie. It sure is nice to have a fellow photograph lover in the family.
