The week that had a rough start has actually turned into a pretty nice one. Despite the fact that Ben is away- life is never as fun when he is gone- and despite the fact that we are a wee bit overscheduled- the 2015 soccer season will be an exercise of endurance for the Hedenberg family, I think- life is good. I felt the need to pop back on here to share that so that my last blogpost didn't sit too long.

Here's the scoop on us this week:

Ben is out of town at a very important meeting that required hours of preparation. We've been a little spoiled with lack of travel over the past month because Trane put travel restrictions in the middle of June. It's not my favorite when he is gone. I am used to it, but I still don't like it.

I returned to preschool this week and have enjoyed being with my coworkers again. I love the women that I work with! We don't actually have students for another thirteen days, but before that date, we are contracted to attend a full morning staff meeting (yesterday), CPR training (today), two mornings of prep time in the classroom (tomorrow and Tuesday), a Curriculum Night (Tuesday night) and an Open House (next Thursday morning). It's nice to have all of these things, along with some fun lunches out and a Margarita Night, spread out over two weeks to ease back into things.

My Home Is My Happy Place is thriving. Each day over the past two weeks, I have averaged three orders placed. Word of mouth and repeat customers have made it so that I am doing very little chasing of work. I'm loving it. Today, for example, a customer came to pick up a custom sign she had requested and placed orders for four more things before leaving my porch. I am finally right where I had hoped to be with this little business. I don't know if I can handle being much busier than this because of the kids and preschool, but this amount of busy is good.

Gracie is liking middle school. She especially seems to enjoy writing. She has not complained, but I have noted that her classes are a challenge compared to the workload at the Sixth Grade Center. This is a good thing. Gracie handles challenge well. French is a bit trickier than she expected it to be. There is more required of her in Band this year as well.

Luke is adjusting to fifth grade. As I knew it would be, it is a little more challenging than fourth grade was. Luke can handle the academic challenge no problem, but the behavioral expectations are leaving him a bit worn out at the end of the day. He has been really wound up after school, but I know that he just needs to get it out of his system a bit. He, like his mom, doesn't especially love new situations.

Drew is not loving first grade. I had hoped that he would, but he is still saying things like, "Why do I even have to go to school?" and "RRRRRRRR! If I didn't have to go to dumb school, then I could stay up later to read!" I pray that as this transition period ends, he starts to enjoy being there a bit more. It's sad when your child doesn't like school.

Katie is soaking up all of the one on one attention she is getting these days. She has had some playtime with friends on some days, but other days just look like lots of hanging out with mom. She usually sweet talks some little fun outing or treat out of me, so even mornings of errands usually hold some fun for her. She is pretty easy to make happy- a lollipop from the bank, a sticker at Target, getting to pull the number at the post office, getting to push the elevator button for us at my doctor's appointment..... I love age four.

Poor Drewbert! Hopefully, once everyone settles in, the teacher will realize that he needs more challenges. And maybe then she will also realize....that he is really almost eleven! At least in his mind. He is not your average first grader.

I can't wait to hear all about their adventures!
