ramblings

1. Gracie is off at camp again. This time is much shorter. After a week away a few weeks ago, this three day excursion will, in theory, feel like nothing. Truth is, though, I already miss her and she just left yesterday afternoon. She texted me last night at 11:00 to tell me that she just got back from an awesome dodgeball tournament. I am so glad she is off having these fun times, even if I will miss her. As my wise mother in law says, "Roots and wings. Roots and wings."

2. It is rainy and gloomy here today. We have little on the agenda. Katie has been painting for AN HOUR NOW. No joke. The boys are down in the basement playing Imaginext. It makes it hard to want to leave the house today. We might not.  This is the kind of day I will look back longingly on when the busy school year begins.

3. We are headed to Decatur this weekend for a much needed visit. It has been over two months since we have seen some of our favorite people. This is too long.

4. Last night Luke and Kate went with me to preschool to help set up a new area of the school. Last February, I approached the directors with some ideas about sprucing up our "Big Room" and got the ball rolling for what has now been a complete makeover. I cannot take the credit for the majority of the changes and decisions that they have made over the past few months, but I am super proud of the free art area that is completely my baby. Last night I got free reign to set it up however I wanted. They ordered new tables and chairs and let me make a list of all of the supplies that I thought we should have in the area. I made some buntings for the area and used some of the bookcases and supplies I've had in storage from my old third grade classroom. I can't wait until it is completely set up. It will be so much fun to see the kids enjoying the space.

5. For the first time in six weeks, I am almost completely caught up on orders. I have five more to paint this afternoon and an order to deliver to The Novel Neighbor, but then there will be ZERO outstanding orders tacked to the bulletin board above my desk. If I was more of a businesswoman, this would probably upset me. The mom in me, though, is just pretty happy to have next week off since it is the last week of the kid's summer break.

6. The house that Ben and I have been dreaming of has gone down in price $5K each week over the past two weeks. At this rate, the house will be ready for us to make an offer on in just fourteen short weeks. :)

I'm happy that kids still get to play dodgeball. I love dodgeball.
