{first day of preschool}

Katie had her first morning of preschool today. The school year does not officially begin until Tuesday, but today the students were invited to spend the morning at school with their parents. To say Katie was excited about going would be such an understatement! As soon as we dropped the boys off at school, she began asking if it was time to go to her school yet… and then asked non stop for the entire ninety minutes we had to wait until it was finally time to leave! We had to do a little art project at home to distract her and pass the time, so she made cards for her new teachers.

Her time at school was great. She was given her special bag for the year (this may have been her favorite part- she was so proud to have a bag like Drew carried for the past two years), talked with her teachers, and learned a few of the procedures for the classroom. She got to paint, play baby dolls, cook in the play kitchen, and try out many of the class dress up costumes. She tried out the classroom bathroom, practiced washing her hands in the classroom sink, and practiced hanging her bag up on her special hook. All in all, I think it was a morning that made us both pretty comfortable about her being there on her own beginning next week.

Katie was very, very (very, very) quiet while we were there, but didn't have any issues at all with separation. I stayed to the back of the classroom to allow her as much independence as she was ready for, and she only came to seek me out twice. When her teachers tried to ask her questions or draw her into conversation, the most she would give is a nod yes or no. In fact, I am not sure if she ever actually spoke to them while we were there. She did complete every task they asked of her and proudly handed them the cards she had made them, so I don't think she felt too scared or shy.

After school, many of the parents and students headed to a nearby park for a picnic and playtime. Although it was incredibly hot, we still had a great time visiting with friends. Even though this is her first year at preschool, Katie knows many of the kids there. We got to share a picnic blanket with Katie's favorite friend and the girls giggled over lunch. It was a nice scene.

I predict a wonderful school year for this little one this year. Go Katie! Can't wait to see you shine, sweet pea!

Katie is every bit the picture of beauty and composure. I have no doubt that she will follow her older brothers (Drews) lead and whip the pre school issues (after a few bumps). You go girl!!!
