I will never wonder how I pick up a cold in this family.

In the past twenty four hours or so, I have seen my son sneeze directly onto my laptop.

I have witnessed him wiping his nose with his bare hand and then grabbing the remote control.

I have cleaned up a mountain of used Kleenex from the top of the kitchen island. (Drew's only explanation- "It is sooo haaaaarrrrrrd to keep getting uuuuuppppppp to throw them awaaaaayyyyyy!" Please keep in mind that the garbage can is about two steps away from the kitchen island.)

I have wiped Katie's or Drew's noses too many times to count- but so many times that we have used up the box of Kleenex I picked up on Sunday. I now keep a roll of toilet paper within arm's reach. My hands are raw from constant washing.

I have actually had to say, many times, "Please stop licking your hands!" to Drew. eeewwwww.

Katie has coughed directly onto my face multiple times.

Clearly I am defenseless against their sharing of their sicknesses.

Last week, one of the preschool moms asked me if Drew had gotten "the cold" yet. Evidently all of the boys in the class have been sharing it with one another. I said no and crossed my fingers. Then Katie started acting a little off at the end of the week, but I thought it was possibly her two year molars. Then Drew, Katie, and I started showing symptoms over the weekend, but I hoped it was just allergies from spending so much time outdoors running from one baseball practice to another. By yesterday, I finally had to admit we had a cold.

If there is any kind of sickness we have to have, I'll take a cold any day. Sure, it is unpleasant, but not even in the same ballpark as stomach sickness or the scary bronchial gunk Luke gets every year. It is annoying and uncomfortable, but short of a little extra crankiness, it doesn't really have too much of an impact on our daily lives. I even sent Drew to preschool this morning. Though his nose is still running a bit, he is in good spirits, has never run a fever., and seems to be over the coughing and sneezing part of the cold.   (Besides, let's be honest, preschool got him sick, so in my book, he is just doing what all the other boys in the class did last week when they brought the germs to school in the first place. I'm not annoyed by parents who send sick kids to public places. Not at all. ggrrrrr.)
