{settling in- a possible rambling list of tidbits of life this week}
I am slowly starting to feel settled. I love it here in Webster Groves. Each day I have had at least one moment where I am just so thankful that this is our new home. When I meet a new friendly neighbor, walk the kids up to their beautiful school and am greeted by the principal, or just drive down the charming streets nearby, I feel so good about our decision.
The kids have had a wonderful first week of school. They are fitting in very well and like their teachers. I am so full of relief. I LOVE the later start time in the mornings. We have not been rushed at all and have even had time to play before school. Such an improvement over the past two years.
Each day the house looks more like us. With each gallon of paint used, picture hung, and closet organized, we are more at home here. Our "turn key" house has had more to do than we thought it would, but it's all been cosmetic so far....just making it ours. There was an awful lot of green and yellow in the house- very nice colors, but just not our taste. We've spent a small fortune on window coverings in the past week.
For the first time in years and years, we have a landline again. My cell phone and this house are not compatible and I was unable to use the phone inside the house. I've pieced together kind of a sad story for the woman who had our new phone number before we got it last week. She gets a lot of phone calls from collection agencies and a bond company.
My next door neighbor reads the paper more than anyone I have ever seen. Every time I see him he is either sitting on his back patio reading the paper or sitting in his sunroom reading his paper. I can see that he is reading his paper in his house because people in this neighborhood do not seem to believe in curtains. You can see right into everyone's house without even trying or wanting to since the houses are so very close to one another.
We have been working so much to move in that we haven't taken much time to just enjoy St. Louis. We are planning on doing a lot of enjoying of our new area this weekend. We are looking forward to two sets of friends coming over as well as two sets of family members coming in from Decatur. We've also promised the kids a trip to Monkey Joe's and a visit to Ted Drewe's. We could all use a little down time.
Happy Friday! Have a wonderful weekend!
