{CMA Music Festival 2012}
I had a wonderful 24 hour getaway in Nashville this weekend to attend the CMA Festival- a completely spur-of-the-moment trip and great distraction from the relocation limbo we're currently in the middle of. Meaghan and Will extended the invitation on Wednesday night and with a couple of quick texts and phone calls, Kelly and I were "in" by Thursday morning. (We were, actually, pretty proud of ourselves for being spontaneous. We both have a tendency to plan and sometimes over- think everything, so to throw together a road trip so quickly was kind of out of character for each of us.)
We had a great time thanks to Meaghan and Will. We had a couple of delicious meals at Nashville landmarks (french toast casserole..... mmmmm...). We had a few rounds to toast Kelly's first visit to the honky tonks. We got lost in a sea of sundresses, plaid shirts, and cowboy boots while wandering around the CMA Festival. We got completely spoiled with amazing seats at the concerts that evening. We sang along to some great county songs and just may have developed a little bit of a crush on Luke Bryan. Kelly and I even walked to Printer's Alley after the concert and laughed at some really bad karaoke until the wee hours of the morning.
Thank you so much to Meaghan and Will for a great time and for being wonderful, generous hosts. Thanks, Kelly, for being the perfect friend to do this with and for being open to driving five hours on two days notice so we could spend some time together. Thank you to Ben and Mark (Kelly's husband) for persuading us to go and manning the forts at home while we enjoyed our getaway. What good hubbies we have.
I would be lying if I said I came home from my getaway feeling refreshed and recharged because right now all I really feel is tired. I went to bed last night not too terribly long before I usually wake up. It might take a really good night's sleep to recover. I can honestly say though that I feel more relaxed and have cleared my head a bit. Having such great conversation with a St. Louis friend definitely makes me even more excited to return to St. Louis.
