{12 on the 12th, July 2011}
disclaimer: I completely forgot about this yesterday, so today is not really the 12th. Oh well.
A list of twelve random statements about my life today-
1. It is an eerily calm and quiet week so far at our house. Even with Ben super-busy at work and Paige, our part-time summer helper, away with her family on vacation, things are going pretty smoothly. I am waiting for all hell to break loose.
2. I am still feeling a little spoiled from all of the special birthday attention I received. Flowers, a date night, sweet birthday cards, shopping money from Ben's family, lunch at the restaurant of my choice, serenades over the phone from some of my very favorite people, handmade treasures from the kids and new patio furniture from Ben. I am a lucky gal.
3. I have been working out at the gym whenever I can find the time. Unfortunately, I can only find the time about twice a week, which is clearly not enough to get any sort of results. I have surprised myself by really enjoying it. It feels good to sweat and it feels even better to spend a quiet hour without anyone needing anything from me.
4. I finished a wonderful book last week, The Forgotten Garden. Patti lent it to me before Katie was born and even if it took me six weeks to finish it- at least three times longer than a book usually lasts for me- it was completely worth it. It was so good that I would steal a few pages here and there every time life was calm in the house.
5. Have you heard the Zac Brown Band singing "Forever and Ever Amen" with Randy Travis? Meaghan introduced it to me and I just love it. I've always loved that song, but I think the Zac Brown Band's version is even better.
6. Insurance companies are so darn unpleasant to work with, aren't they? Ben and I are taking turns dealing with a complication with our account and Katie's hospital bills. Waiting and waiting and waiting on hold only to finally be connected to someone who is hard to understand....not fun.
7. Our guest room has been used for seven of the past seventeen nights by three different visits. It was wonderful.
8. Gracie and I went to Borders together last night and she spent some of her birthday money on a diary. Do all little girls just love diaries? I think it must be universal.
9. Houses are expensive. We have had some kooky things poke up over the past couple of weeks. Luckily, the water company is paying for one mishap and insurance is covering the other (minus our deductible...)
10. Our trip is fast approaching and we're all so excited. It is funny how quickly our eight days away have filled up with plans. So many wonderful people to spend time with, so little time.
11. Baby Kate is suddenly a baby instead of a newborn. Like overnight. Funny how quickly that happens.
12. If you are ever up and bored at three in the morning, give me a call. Katie and I are up at this time every single night without fail. She has an internal alarm clock that goes off between 2:50 and 3:15.
Happy Wednesday, friends! We're off to the park this morning before the stifling heat sets in for the day. I know this is a completely obvious statement considering we're talking about July in the South, but gosh, it has been sooo hot lately!
