quick peeks at us-

Things are good here. Busy, but good.

Quick peeks at our life right now:

Drew is the funniest, messiest, neediest, cutest little side kick I could imagine.  He and I have fallen into our groove spending our days together, just the two of us. He is obsessed with books and would be read to all day if I would agree. He has begun to "read" books to me from memory and it just might be the cutest thing I've seen in a long time.

He is doing much better at Mother's Day Out and now has two successful mornings under his belt. He is currently fighting an awful cold, so we had to reschedule his eye surgery that was supposed to be on Wednesday. That poor little eye will get fixed eventually.......

I love him to pieces and am really enjoying this age, no matter how tiring it is.

Luke is doing great. He comes home from school each day full of stories to share.  He loves to learn and, according to his teacher, is "a complete and total pleasure to have in class." She then told me with a giggle that she loves hearing some of the stuff that comes out of his mouth and that he has something to share on any topic.  That's my Luke. :)

He spends a large part of each afternoon creating books- holed up in the dining room with paper and crayons, lost in his own little world. He has big dreams for his upcoming birthday for a huge box of crayons, construction paper, and a stapler of his very own. (I'm pretty sure we can handle that.)

He and Ben have been incredibly close lately and Luke looks forward to some of the special things he does with just his daddy. They love to play video games on the weekends, practice soccer in the yard, and talk about all things Superhero. Luke thinks Ben is just about the coolest guy on the planet.

Gracie is doing well too and growing up right before my eyes. Sometimes lately she does or says something that is so mature I am momentarily blown away. She has been very into helping out around the house lately, no matter what we're doing. She loves to help make dinner, "babysit" Drew, or help in the yard. She was thrilled today when I let her change Drew's diaper- a first. She and Ben painted the hallway over the weekend and she loved it.

She seems to enjoy second grade and has lots of friends in her class.  She has joined a Brownie troop and is excited for all of the fun that will entail. She is a little reading machine lately and we are having a hard time getting her to sleep at night.  We finally get her down at least thirty minutes after her brothers, following many pleas for time to read just one more chapter. I have a hard time saying no. :)

Things are good with me too.  Sometimes I get in bed at night and don't really know where the day went. As I mentioned earlier, Drew keeps me very busy these days. If the big kids are at school, he wants my undivided attention. I could not tell you how many hours a week I spend playing with cars, tractors, and trains! Fortunately, once Gracie walks in the door at 3:15, I am chopped liver and he wants to be with her.  She loves it and I have a chance to unwind for a bit. I get more housework done, emails sent, and laundry folded between 3:00 and 4:30 than I do the rest of the day combined!

The PTA work I have been doing has been fun, as have my Tuesday mornings in Gracie's classroom. My booth at the craft and antique mall has been going pretty well in the past couple of weeks, so anytime Drew is happily occupied in the playroom, I have been hopping on my sewing machine to make a few more things to sell. Between volunteering at the school, keeping up with Drew, single parenting during Ben's many nights away lately, and shuttling the kids to all of their commitments, I am busier than I anticipated being once the school year began, but I like it.

And Ben, as I mentioned, has been really busy with work lately. Lots of late nights.  Lots of travel. Lots of nights away.  Fortunately, also lots of success.  Things are going well for him and I am proud of his hard work, though I will admit I wish I saw more of him.

Once the weekend rolls around, he is 110% ours, though, and is so very good at making each of us feel special.  He showers each of the kids with attention and tries to do one-on-one activities with each of them. He becomes super-husband around the house, tackling anything that needs done that he doesn't have time to do during the week. He always tries to think of one fun thing we can do as a family or cheerfully agrees to any activity I suggest.  He's a good guy, my Ben.

So that is us. :)

Off to make dinner for three very rambunxious Superheroes........

Luke called me. He let me know that he was "the cutest sidekick you ever had". Sorry, I couldn't help myself. Thank God the kids don't read your blog.

Nice try, Bryan, but no guilt trip here. :) Luke has been offended by being called cute for about three years now; he says big boys are handsome, NOT cute!
